Wes O'Neill

What has the kid been up to this year?

Prior to the draft he was highly touted and fell. At the time I thought it was a steal!

So what has he done this year?
Where will he be next year?
Whats is his potential?

He is still in college, it's really hard to get a read on him. Seems like he is doing well there, but i think he will probably play in the AHL before he comes here(if he ever does).
from the recent Islanders prospect pool of top 20

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article.php?sid=8427

13. (9) Wes O’Neill, D – 7.0C – Notre Dame (NCAA)

Wes O’Neill is considered the love him or hate him prospect in the Islanders stable of prospects. In his draft year, O’Neill was considered a classic case of having many tools but a questionable toolbox.

This season, O’Neill has taken further strides in all facets of his game. He is one of the leaders for Notre Dame and is considered a top threat in the NCAA. O’Neill is a hardworking player and was relied heavily on by coach Jeff Jackson. The ongoing issue with O’Neill is forcing passes into traffic and making questionable decisions with the puck. If those issues are overcome, he can have a good overall game.

O’Neill is expected back for a fourth and final season with the Irish. His strong skating and offensive skills will continue to be honed in a solid NCAA program.

He is sort of positioned in a wierd place on the list. Basically Islanders Second round draft pick Dustin Kohn(who is having an average seaons, but could do better) is 12, and 14 is definantly a drop off after that(or you could argue 13th). I guess the word project would be the best way to describe O`Neill.

Here's a link for his stats this year:
http://www.uscho.com/stats/team-over...am=nd&gender=m

Currently 4th on his team in scoring, and 1st in defenseman scoring (next highest defenseman has a full 10 points fewer).

2003-04 39gp 2g 10a 12pts
2004-05 38gp 6g 14a 20pts
2005-06 35gp 6g 19a 25pts

He's progressed offensively each season, which is a good sign, but that really is the least of my concerns when it comes to his progress.
