I love Ruutu, but I'm not so sure about that hit being clean. The Latvian player didn't look like he had his head fully turned to see Ruutu coming, and if he did, it was only for a split second. Ruutu was certainly in "full steam ahead" mode, so you know he was lining that one up. For Ruutu's sake, though, the Latvian guy began to turn up ice with his head turned the other way after just dishing off the puck, which is begging to be creamed.

I am not saying that it was a clean hit but unbelivable call to kick him out.

I made the comment about it being a questionable hit based on what was being discussed in the GDT. On Ruutu being kicked out of the game, yeah, I think the ref overreacted a bit there.

EDIT: After seeing some still photos of the hit and the video a little slower, I do think it was clean. It looks nasty, but then again, that's just good ole Rudy.

Clean hit.

Stick was down, no elbow. Ruutu pretty much ran him over with his chest.

Ruutu exploded to his feet after he ran the guy over.

The Latvian player committed hockey suicide with the position he put himself in.

As with a lot of big hits, it looked worse in real time than it actually was.

Some of Ruutu's play does border on the dirty (I like it ), but the stills of this one pretty much prove that it was clean.

Head up Mr Latvian

Tuomo Ruutu said in an interview that he might retire. Hope he was just joking...
