Ryan Potulney

You guys got something special here. Hes always coming up big for the Gophers and now hes a Hobey Baker Finalist. Im just glad the Wild got his best freind Danny Irmen whos not to bad himself.

Potulneys already got a het trick in the Gophers game and the second period just ended.

Another hatty? Didn't he have one in the first playoff game? Do the stats he puts up through the frozen four count for the hobey baker or are the votes in? I saw that he didn't win player of the year in his conference (which I found surprising), what do you think his chances are for the Hobey Baker?

The Hobey Baker is decided before the national championship game...so no.

he has magic hands...his accuracy and shot are up there with anyone on the flyers RIGHT NOW.

He's not the fastest kid or most physical, but he knows how to bury the puck.

Phantoms next year, won't get called up unless we're injury plagued as hell next season, too.
2007-08 he'll be a regular.

I'll probably get laughed out for this, but Potulny reminds me a lot of Jason Blake of the Islanders. The only difference is that his skating isn't quite as good as Blake's, but his hockey sense is far superior to Blake's.

If he can be as good a player as Blake, I'd be very happy. I've only seen a couple games last season on TV, but he kind of reminds me of Martin Erat of Nashville. Stocky with a good set of hands.

If the NCAA season is over for him any chance he plays with the Phantoms this year?

all i've seen about him suggests that he isn't a particularly good skater... but he clearly has a very good shot (the highlights i've seen of the kid have shown this fact off). if he can translate his finishing ability -- especially on the PP to the NHL -- he could be a great player for us to have... the danger, of course, with players that are subpar at skating is that they can't keep up with the game at this level. hopefully that won't be the case since we are desperate for someone who can come in and be a finisher at wing.

we have enough young players around who can take on the other jobs on the ice, but we definitely need at least one of Potulny/Ruzicka to come in and be the guy that will take a pass and put it in the net with some consistency.

i'm not sure if they do that with NCAA players or not... obviously he will still have school going on for a bit, so that would factor into his decision you would think. i'm hoping he makes the decision to come out this year and be somewhere in the organization next year, but that might be something he and the Flyers have a discussion about.
