What's Up with Burke?

Biggest signing since Messier disaster. Silence from Burke. The strange and unexplained New York meeting. Nonis and almost everybody else looking glum at an oddly downbeat announcement (although I suppose they had just coughed a point up to Phoenix). Nonis and Bertuzzi both unconvincingly mentioning McCaw by name. On top of that, Brent Sopel had inexplicably thrown the puck away in the slot with a soft pass up the middle.

The Russian mob already owns the team, and had to throw the game last night to beat the spread to start to pay for Bertuzzi's contract. :moon:

Yeah, did that press conference seem weird or what? Both Nonis and Bertuzzi seemed to be on the verge of tears. Mind you, based on his regular appearances on SportsTalk it's clear that Nonis is no party animal...

Burke is in Boston with his kids, apparently there's some kind of family issue.

It put me in a Buffalo Springfield kind of mood:

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

lol, you know the scary thing is that I'd no longer be shocked if I read the above in the vancouver media. Much of the things they've been writing about are ridiculously unsubstantiated.

I don't Nonis and Bertuzzi are your usually rah-rah types.

Heh could you imagine Burke as your father ?

You play with drugs and I'm handing you to the police, I'll even drive you to the station

If you keep your face like that, you'll look like Al Strachan

He'd give his kids an allowance? Christ, I'm surprised they're allowed to wear clothes. "Newspaper can keep you just as warm."

No doubt he'll go and visit his kids again some time, I have no doubt he'll want to.

Why do people in this city make such a big deal every time Burke or a player draws breath?

Maybe the Canucks just wanted to let the fans know about the deal, right away. Burke couldn't make it, but the team wants the official details in the papers on Monday morning. So, they have the Assistant do the announcement.

I think there are a few too many conspiracy theories floating around the Canucks these days.

For those that don't want to open up the vault.

Burke

Basically he had his kids during that time which is pre-determined months in advance. Family comes first.

Also they have talked extension for Burke. I can't imagine it not getting done.
