It has to be evident by now that..

Markov is the MVP of this team. Yes I know, nothing shocking about saying that. But without Markov the habs are a basement team this season. We have a ridiculous win % without him in the line up and I'd be interested in seeing our goals scored average per game without him in the line up. We can't produce anything on offense without him.

The habs started struggling right when he got injured. We were on a tear just before that. He played against the caps (albeit little and injured) and guess what, we won.

If he isn't back at 100% soon, we can kiss the playoffs goodbye.

By now, it's a fact: When Markov is there, we win, when he isn't, we lose. Simple as that.

On ice, yes. He controls the team's transition game and makes every player around him infinitely better.

No, he's our most valuable player. There's a difference. Maybe if we had more defensive depth, losing him for a few games wouldn't totally screw us over.

That's it! Move over Koivu! Markov is our new God!

Pretty obvious. When he's not there, 5 other guys are trying to fill roles they aren't suited for.

Yea - it is obvious. This team has an average group of D with him in the lineup. When he is not playing, it is a really bad group of D. Then take Bouillion out and wow. But Markov is the team MVP. See how much trouble Overchkin had getting b him the other night?

I watched the first 30 minutes last night and there was no transition game for the habs and they looked very very slow. This is what happens when Markov is out of the lineup.

Also, it is time for BG to change up the lines. The Ribs-Kovalev experiment should be over.

what about Zednik ?

We also win when he's not playing ...

Can we also considere him as the MVP ?

With Markov:
29-16-8 record
3.08 goals scored per game
2.87 goals against per game

Without Markov:
3-11-1 record
2.07 goals scored per game
4.00 goals against per game

Of course, this doesn't tell the whole story. Many of the games without Markov have been against tough teams - and 9 of the 15 have been on the road. But still... it's obviously a huge loss when he's out of the line-up.

Markov's importance to the teams' success has been evident for sometime. He plays against the other teams top forwards, eats up big minutes and is the linchpin of the Habs PP. If he is out for any length of time the teams playoff hopes have taken a huge blow.

So our MVP this year has been...

Koivu and Begin at the start...

then it was Kovalev

then it was Huet

now it is Markov.

I'm not going to lable who our MVP is right now, especially since our captain is playing at about 40% his best.

But I've said it before and I'll continue to say it. If this summer we don't aquire another defenseman around the same calibre of Markov, and can do the same things as Markov (i.e play in all zones, lead the rush, QB a PP) then don't expect anything better than another mad scramble to make the playoffs next year.
