Marty Murray

I know we traded him to Carolina and I know he is in the Germany Elite league now, but why wouldn't we have reconsidered. Small fast great defensively with more offense than say Savage. What is the knock?

For our situation right now, we have too many centers:

Forsberg, Handzus, Carter, Richards, Umberger and Nedved.

And Primeau on the sidelines. My thought is Clarke thought we had enough role players already with the team and coming up in the Phantoms.

murray plays well on the wing, he did well on a line with roenick and amonte...i agree that he would be a much better alternative than savage

Come on--We have tons of these little character guys. Simm was better than Murray and he's gone too.

Sim had good energy early on but after that tailed way off.

Dunno about Marty Murray, but anyone who has a problem with Brian Savage just plain hasn't been paying attention. Through the slide when Carter was coasting and Gagne was playing Girlie and Knuble was invisible, Savage was out there banging bodies and working.

Dissatisfied with him as a first or second line guys?

Sho nuff.

Looking to replace him as a checking or fourth line guy?

Silly. He's playing his best hockey of the year and right now i dare say the line he is on has been the Flyers' most consitently hard-working and, lately, effective.

Sim tapered off? He went to Florida and got a hat trick right away. I wish more flyers would "taper off" to your liking.

Good point. Nine goals in 20 games down there. Impressive.

As his time here progressed, his effectiveness waned is all I am saying.

But I guess I do see the point - I liked his scrappiness and one could reach teh conclusion that he belongs on the squad more than Savage. At the same time, Savage is playing good hockey now.

He got the trick against the Capitals. Hardly a great feat.

Man, I thought that guy was gonna come in and be great. Then I thought he would be great in Edmonton. Man, was I wrong. He never did anything, except have that one 4 goal game.

I still wonder if it would have worked out differently if Dopita and Brendl didn't suffer major injuries in their first game with us. They were both flying that game, Brendl hit three posts and looked great; it was against the Panthers if I remember correctly.

Yeah, I remember that game. I think Dan Boyle was the Florida defenseman at the time who ended up taking out Dopita's knee that game.

As for Brendl, what a shame. All the talent in the world. The kid could skate and shoot and he had a knack for scoring big goals. It was like he never recovered from the Rangers organization at the time. No work ethic what so ever and I think that was the biggest shame of all. If he would have kept himself in shape and just applied himself, he would have been a very effective player for us.

However, not too many players from that draft year ever did well. I think the Flyers picked Maxime Ouellette that year and look at how his career has gone.

Hitch's comment apparently was Sim plays great from the red line in. Meaning he didn't do defense too well. Not well enough for Hitch I guess.

And yeah it was Boyle as a Florida Panther who took out Dopita's knees. Seemed like Dopita was trying to get off for a line change when it happened. Not quite sure about that though. It was game one of that season and I blamed him for Dopita's lack of success, until the trade to Edmonton. I guess there was a reason he was the best NOT in the NHL.
