Well...It wasn't much, it was an unfortunate blow. However, it's the fact that he still wanted to go after n.15 after injuring a player that makes me think he's a little loco.

i just looked at the video, and honestly, this was no where near any of the events that took place from the people who've mentioned in this thread. I have no idea how this hit could of broken his neck and back (which it didnt, btw). It's clear that it's been blown out of proportions.

He only suffered a severe concussion, no injury to the neck or back. The first article definitely was misleading.

Heres a direct link to the clip:

Looks like a crosscheck to the neck if you ask me, but its hard to make-out.

folks... even before I saw the video I was going to caution people to hold their vehement opinions until more info came through. Much of the press info that comes out of russia is highly unreliable and poorly translated... plus there will always be a bias in reporting when someone gets seriously injured.

Tracking the progression: we went from an enraged maniacal attack on a helpless good samaritan, to a gutless sucker punch on a guy who was kneeling over the poor helpless Emelin, to a really pissed off guy getting up and in the space of 2 seconds taking a shot at the closest person to him and then trying to go with the next person around. Not the prettiest side of hockey I've ever seen, but the severity of the damage (which is unknown) looks to be largely an unfortunate event rather than some great blight on the character of either person.

I hope that Varlamov recovers quickly and that he's able to continue playing soon. Hopefully Emelin was shocked by this and learns to hold his anger in check a little better... the league will hand down a suspension, I don't think anyone will think it isn't deserved, but I also don't think it should be prolonged.

Let this be a lesson to everyone on the boards... wait to see an event for yourself before believing something you read!

For getting a puck in the head? Like he was aiming for his head and not the net. Please...

I first said that it probably deserved a 10 game suspension or something but after watching this video max 2 games, and that's if he even gets a suspension.

Seriously, the injury was unfortunate but punches like that happen all the time.

IMO, Emelin didn't knew he injured the player. He went on #15 because he took a penalty on him...we see that kind of thing really often in every league(not the cross check in the face...)

Anyways, it isn't that bad after all. Varlamov was unlucky I guess...the hit was just at the right place to give him a concusion...

Ya I know I just think he's a little crazy (not that that's a bad thing).

Clearly the punch was suppose to go to #15 but Varlamov happened to take the exact same place where #15 was suppose to be. I don't even know if Emelin knew that a puck had hit him but obviously Varlamov in no way seemed to have taunt him or anything else like that.

But it was blown out of proportions, we see those types of scrum every single game, it just a matter of how the punch connected. Bad luck on all part, bad luck for Varlamov obviously but bad luck on Emelin's part too 'cause he could be suspensed based on the consequence instead of the real gesture.

Though he seems like a Kasparaitis to me which could be good but bad as well. Needs to control his temper or he won't last long.

Looking at the video, I see nothing wrong with what Emelin did.

If someone cheap-shotted Souray, Rivet or Komisarek, then they got hit by a slapshot after the whistle, I think we'd all be surprised if they didn't get up and go after someone.

On the Russian board they say that Varalmov doesn't have a neck injury just a bad concussion.

Ok just saw the video.

That was stupid by Emelin...but...not 1/60th of what I thought had happend when I first read the thread.

I'm kinda sad for the guy who got hit...he looked genuinly concerned about Emelin....and then he gets Knocked out....DOH!

Much ado about nothing.

That's IT???

That's nothing.. no need for a suspension or anything more than a 2 minute minor. That guy colapsed like nothing I've ever seen... here I was, expecting to see some sort of viscious assault and all I get is a shove/crosscheck and thats it.

Class is overrated? Having class is what makes being here alive worthwhile. It's pretty easy to tell you're no older than 16... at least i hope you're not.

Emelin got 5 games. Apparently, he's juiced about coming to N.A. next year.
