QMJHL - RE/MAX Challenge Roster

The QMJHL unveil the roster for the RE/MAX Challenge

(Longueuil, Tuesday October 28, 2003)- Gilles Courteau, Commissioner of the
QMJHL, today announced in press conference the roster for the CHL RE/MAX
Challenge. Gilles Courteau also announced the name of the two honorary
captains who will be in Halifax and Rimouski.

The best QMJHL Canadian players, eligible to the National team pre
selection training camp for the World Junior Championship (no 20-year-old
players) will play 2 games against Russian team inside the CHL RE/MAX
Challenge which will be held in November. The first game will be on
Thursday, November 20th at the Halifax Metro Centre and the second one will
be on Monday, November 24 at the Rimouski Coliseum. The players selection
was done by Mr Blair Mackasey, Hockey Canada head scout, with two (2)
general managers of the QMJHL, Doris Labonté (Rimouski Oceanic) and
Stéphane Pilotte (Val-dOr Foreurs).

Here is the roster:

Goaltenders:
Corey Crawford (Mon), Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers (Chi) and Marc-André Fleury (Cap).

(Maxime Daigneault (VdO) will participate if Fleury is absent)

Defensemen:
James Sanford (Mon), Patrick Coulombe (Rim), Bruno Gervais (Bat), Doug
OBrien (Gat), Alexandre Picard (Cap), Rosario Ruggeri (Chi) and Nathan
Sanders (Mon).

Forwards:
Patrice Bergeron (Bat), Marc-André Bernier (Cap), Steve Bernier (Mon),
Sidney Crosby (Rim) , Stephen Dixon (Cap), François-Pierre Guénette (Cap), Jean-François Jacques (BaC), Alexandre Picard (Lew), Marc-Antoine Pouliot (Rim), Dany Roussin (Rim), Maxime Talbot (Gat) and Cory Urquhart (I.P.É.);

(Michael Lambert (I.P.É.) will be there if Patrice Bergeron is absent)

Former defenseman Cam Russel, from Halifax, will be the honorary captain
for the game in Halifax. Russel got a nice hockey player career with the
Hull Olympiques (1985-86 to 1988-89), the Chicago Black Hawks and the
Colorado Avalanche, where he ended his professional career in 1998-99. He
also was assistant coach with the Halifax Mooseheads from 2000-01 to
2001-02. Former right winger Louis Sleigher will be the honorary captain in
Rimouski. Sleigher, born in Nouvelle, Quebec, played with the Chicoutimi
Saguenéens (1976-77 to 1977-78), for team of the EHL and AHL and with the
Quebec Nordiques until 1984-85. He was then traded to the Boston Bruins and
ended his career in 1985-86.

Finally, these two (2) important games will be broadcast on Rogers
Sportsnet; the game in Rimouski will also be broadcast on RDS. During this
important CHL RE/MAX Challenge, the Russian team will also play against the
OHL and the WHL.

He is there. They just didn't put the "Marc" before the Antoine. After Picard, before Stewart.

To my recollection, no 20s, no Euros allowed on the team.

You need to eligible to the next WJC-U-20 for Team Canada..

Unless Vrana change his citizenship, I will not be invited..

I live in Maryland, but am really excited about the young talent up in Canada. Does anyone know how I can get a ticket to one of the RE/MAX games?

Even more surprising (to me) is the absence of Josh Hennessy. Roussin is good but Crosby and Pouliot helped his stats a lot.

It's good to see that most of those guys are 85 so they will also be available for next year WJC.

If Fleury is not released by Pittsburgh, it's Maxime Daigneault who will fill his spot.

Martin Houle could have been a good choice, but the Q have so many great goalies

Do you think they will have a Rimouski line or the line of Bernier-Pouliot-Roussin reunited for the tournament.

How about a Nova Scotian line of Dixon-Crosby-Urquhart, with their Martime pals Sanford and Saunders on defence?
