My brain says the Caps are the better team. They've been the better team driving play for almost all of this series. Through the first four games, Flower stood strong while Holtby wilted and the Pens capitalized on an insanely high shooting and save percentage, and it felt like they put every Caps mistake into the back of the net. Those percentages are coming back to normal on both sides and now the better team will win. Not since 2012 has a team been outshot in every game and won the series.

The DC sports fan in me is trying to say that it would be so Caps to outshoot the Pens in every game and still lose the series. Fleury will be a combination of Halak, Lundqvist, Brodeur, Hasek, and Tretiak. The Caps will control the game and lose in heartbreaking fashion. Holtby will let in a softie in the first 10 minutes to deflate the building. A puck will bounce off 8 different legs and shin pads and find its way into the back of our net. Throw logic out the window and remember the last 25 years of sorrow (40 years for the Caps) that this city has felt... the universe will conspire to make sure bad stuff happens to the Caps and this fan base.

But, **** that noise. **** it. I believe they will get this done. All of the disappointments and bad breaks and early exits have led to this point. The guys looked into the abyss of another 2nd round exit and said, "nope, not this time." This series will play out as the Caps / Rangers series played out in 2015 and they finish the Pens tonight while continuing their march towards bringing this city its first Stanley Cup. It's going to happen.

My kid was born two weeks ago and I have been an emotional wreck ever since. If we win tonight I will most likely cry.

Daughter and I were talking about being at this game last night. The white pom poms that were given out that night were going in unison that night at the old Cap Centre in Landover with the chant Hextall, Hextall! Dust off those white pom poms for tonight's game.

I would love to hear a cap yelling at Pierre post game, I don't choke!

When I say love, that is a major league understatement.

As pissed as I was when the Pens scored those two goals Monday night I am glad they did. So wanted a shutout to punctuate that beat down, but by the Pens scoring like they did I think it reminded the Caps that PIT is still a very dangerous team. Not to let up on them and fight to the end. Or at least I hope the Caps learned that lesson heading into tonight.

For me, I am a wreck. This **** is having an actual affect on my mental and physical well being. Woke up in the middle of the night with a racing heart rate. Thought it was the big one. Had to wake up my nurse practitioner/professor Step-Mother at 3am to see if I needed to go to the ER. She laughed and said it was anxiety after I explained to her why I might be anxious, the Caps. Really stupid to get so worked up about a sport but I just want to be a fan of a winner again. And my hate for the Pens is now at the level of my hate for the Crackboys. Its a lethal combination.

Having said all that, I will be properly lubed up leading up to, and during, tonight's game. I'll need all the help I can get to take the edge off. **** I need a drink right now. I want to believe but I will continue to expect disappointment. We all have been here before and had Lucy pull the football out from under us. If the Caps win tonight I will start believing. Big IF though.
