Leafs sign Clarke Wilm

The Leafs have signed forward Clarke Wilm, 27, to a two-way contract. He's expected to clear waivers today and be sent to St. John's.

He hasn't played a minor league game since the '97/'98 season and should provide some good depth.

Last season he played all 82 games for Nashville scoring 5 goals and 11 assists and 36 PIMs.

TSN Scouting Report
Preseason projected role Wilm will probably spend all of 2003-04 in the AHL. He'll need to work even harder to make it back to the big league.

Assets Comes to play each and every night. Has above-average speed and excellent anticipation, which makes him a good penalty-killer. Can play all three forward positions.

Flaws Needs continued work in the face-off circle. Has limited on-ice vision when on the attack and a mediocre offensive game.

Career potential Reserve forward.

Nothing wrong with that as the scouting report states he has a good work ethic so he should provide a good example for all the youngins on the rock.

Good signing, the baby Leafs desperately need some forward help and he seems to have a bit of experience and an excellent work ethic.

Since Perrott and Poni don't look to be sent down anytime soon (no way will they clear waivers), its a good move. I think st johns has been going with 3 lines at times this year.

stajan should benefit from antropov's injury... maybe even get a promotion to a scoring line... as long as renberg is out as well, ponikarovsky should see some action as well.

What has either Perrott or Poni done to deserve to be there? Perrott played two games this year without a fight... let's be honest he isn't there to play grab buns he should be out there showing he wants to say.

Poni (IMO) has never done anything to prove that he belongs in the NHL.

Belak is there and is a valuable forward/d - the leafs need that. Is he a superstar no but he has proven to add more value to the club then those two have.

I'd play poni over belak,he's at least as effective(except for fighting)and more disciplined.

I am really excited about this Wilm sinning I was hoping the leafs would have picked him up at the waver draft but that didn't happen. This signing was a pretty big surprise. Wilm will help the baby Leafs evenly adding some much needed scoring, speed and grit to a thin front squad.

Wilm

Wilm was a good signing by the Maple Leafs. Don't look to Wilm to score 30 or 40 goals, but his attitude and leadership will help the SJML's during the season.
