New York Rangers Vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
Vs.

NY Rangers (39-20-11) at Tampa Bay (37-28-5)

Game Info: 7:30 pm EST Sat Mar 25, 2006
TV: MSG, Sun

The Tampa Bay Lightning look to win their fourth straight home game and continue their push to defend the Stanley Cup they host the Atlantic Division-leading New York Rangers. The Lightning and New Jersey Devils are tied for sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 79 points. Both teams have a three-point lead over eighth-place Atlanta.

New York picked up a point in its 3-2 shootout loss Friday against Florida and enters this game with a one-point lead over second-place Philadelphia in the Atlantic Division.

"Right now that could be an extremely valuable point," Rangers coach Tom Renney said. "Tonight, it is."

Red-hot Jaromir Jagr became the third player in Rangers history to score 50 goals in a season, joining Vic Hadfield and Adam Graves.

Jagr has a seven-game point streak with seven goals and six assists in those games, but hasn't scored a goal in three games against the Lightning this season.

Michael Nylander assisted on Jagr's goal against the Panthers, and has a season-high six-game point streak with four goals and eight assists in that span.

New York has only allowed only five goals in three games against Tampa Bay this season.

please... i dont buy this superstition crap. the only way we dont make it is if we literally lose every game for the rest of the season. we are going to make the playoffs guaranteed... if you dont like reading the facts because you're afraid it'll jinx us, then stop reading the threads

How will Philly have a game in hand? They play tonight against Ottawa so at the end of the night the Rangers and the Flyers will have each played 71 games.

that might be true for weak-minded players...
i dont know about you, but jagr seems to be on a mission. he said it at the beginning of the year; superstition or not, his goal was to make the playoffs. that was being said after we havent made the playoffs in almost a decade. so yes, superstition does play a huge role, like growing playoff beards, not changing your socks, etc... but not when you have the best player in the world and easily the best leader in the NHL right. superstition or not, we will soon see that jagrs first goal has been accomplished... and then the second goal being... droooool

Almost every hockey player has some kind of superstition; whether it's growing a beard, dressing from the left side first or eating the same meal before games.

Anyway you slice it, the Rangers have lost 8 of 11 games. Most of these games have been against teams that are either in the playoff position or fighting for it. In most of those games, the team has been very sloppy. They need to start to reverse the trend.

A win here means 3 pts on the short Florida trip which will be fine.

my lineup for tonight:

Prucha-Nylander-Jagr
Straka-Rucchin-Sykora
Giroux-Betts-Ward
Hossa-Moore-Ortmeyer

I would assume he has to dress. We have no offense as it is. No way can we afford to dress a guy by the name of Orr who can only handle 2 minutes a game.

I'm sure Devil fans are hoping for a Ranger win tonight. However, I would find this game very interesting as a Ranger fan due to playing a team that probably needs a win a lot more then the Rangers do and I would think a little more desperate.

With or without Orr in the line-up we have no offence after Jagr.

Hossa doesn't improve it neither will Giroux

But there are those of us that see the need for an enforcer in the lineup more important than seeing Hossa skate the puck along the boards and lose it behind the net.

either way, neither Hossa or Orr will affect the outcome of the game. Orr hasn't done anything to hurt us and Hossa hasn't done anything to help us so it's a nonfactor either way
