Hello fellow Caps fans. I'm a long time Hfboard reader, but not much of poster. So this is my effort to get more involved. Haha. So, since Backstrom and Nylander are becoming quite the duo in The WC, would any of you be adverse to trading Carlson + for William ?

I'd do that trade in a heartbeat but there is a 0.00% chance Toronto pulls the trigger on that trade. Carlson is a UFA in one year, and Nylander is a 60 point 21-year old player on an ELC.

It depends... who sent you?? Haha.

At the very least, it's the kind of deal I could live with -- keep Schmidt, get a high quality asset for Carlson.

On the other hand, if the Caps could find a way to ensure keeping both Schmidt & Carlson, I'd probably just do that.

Kucherov is close enough. But yeah that's probably more the normal range. Couldn't remember the stat.

Im really high on Nylander living in Toronto, in fact Im higher on him than I am on Marner. Not sure that would be enough, but if Toronto was down for Carlson+ I'd definitely listen.

They're not. Come on, man. That's a fantasy. They'd laugh in our face.

Toronto is one team that would really want Carlson. It would probably be Carlson + Burakovsky. Steep as hell, but possible.

Either way I'm not even on the trade Carlson trade bandwagon, I'm staying on the ever shrinking trade Ovechkin bandwagon.

Carlson + Burakovsky for Nylander is an easy no for Washington.

It would take someone like Colton Parayko or Seth Jones for Toronto to listen to an offer on Nylander. Carlson doesn't even get the conversation started, especially with one year left on his contract before he hits unrestricted free agency.

an easy no? Many posters here think Carlson will be gone after his contract ends, so from that POV its probably a yes. Me personally I have no problem paying Carlson.

Probably, but it was also the (or one of the) best line in the NHL.

The guy loves Boston, born in Natick. Wonder what the Bruins would give up for him they need high end defense. Good match for those two parties.

Just don't know what Caps would want

Don't spend too much time on HF so I guess I haven't seen that. Don't know why people are so ready to ditch Carlson who's consistently one of our best D let alone RHD in the playoffs. To me, the long-term D corps is Orlov, Niskanen, Schmidt, Carlson. Can't lose any of those guys without a ready, credible replacement.

I didn't like Niskanen's play in G7. I thought he was playing with shaking hands. He has never spoken about it and I don't trust him (redirecting blame for others).

Honestly, I think Niskanen played a mediocre series vs Pitts.

Feel like helping caps/ovie get a cup.

To me it appears Capitals need to gain size, aggression, some north american heart while not losing much skill.

Here are my ideals for ya'll to get you guys a Cup next year.

Kuznetsov + Orpik(massive cap dump) for Edler + Pedan + top 6 LW Baertschi

Allows you to trade Johansson

Johansson + pick/prospect + rights for one of your UFA (oshie?/alzner?) for Pavelski (SJ wants a shake-up too)

Grubauer for Ferland (flames need a goalie)

Sign Radulov 6x6
Sign White or Connolly

Ovie - Backstrom - Radulov
Baertschi - Pavelski - Burakovsky
Wilson - Eller - Vrana
Connolly - Beagle - Ferland

Edler - Carlson
Orlov - Niskanen
Pedan - Bowey

Holtby
b/a

via armchair GM on capfriendly - this leave you with about $2m in cap space for filler.

That first trade is ugly. No interest in moving kuznetsov.

Hmm, he seemed shaky in the beginning of G7 to me, too. But overall in the series/playoffs, he seemed ok to me, I dunno, still the most reliable D man overall.

So... you don't trust him.. enough to want to trade him?

When can we expect Edler, Pedan and Baertschi to get North American heart transplants?

Start by trading Ovechkin. That's a lot of money for someone who only does one thing (power play turret) well.

I am fearing building our team around Ovi is re-arraging deck chairs on the titanic. I think its becoming slowly evident that the younger players will have to be the ones leading the way to any cup ambitions in the next 4 years. We saw a sign of the passing of the torch as Bura despite no goals became our 1LW. The proverbial writing on the wall.

Texts going around the room in 20.... let's win it for Ovi.
