So the hiring of Jake Goldberg as Director of Hockey Ops last week, combined with the Barroway buyout effort, has introduced a lot of intrigue as to what is going to happen with the team's front office if Barroway succeeds.
Isn't Goldberg going to report to Chayka? So despite similar sounding titles, Goldberg would be a couple levels below Drummond.

It don't help that the whole situation is primarily built on the necessity of boondoggles to support a bad team.

The only reason why we haven't transitioned from this to relocation talks is because Bettman has chosen this hill to die on.

I feel bad for Coyotes fans; don't get me wrong. Sucks that your team is irrelevant besides stuff like this, and as a Hurricanes fan, I know to well of this. Unfortunately, fiscal solvency has to take place for everybody's collective sanity.

Considering the WNBA and it's struggles as being more than a vanity project, why haven't the Storm left that mouse trap for the arena in Kent?

Yes. The hierarchy as I'm presuming it to be....

Drummond (PHO) -> Tippett (VPHO) -> Chayka (GM) -> Goldberg (DHO)

This franchise has been on shaky financials ever since 2009...

And, unfortunately, there does not seem to be a gold rush of investors willing to stake a claim here in the desert...

The mine is a bust and has been based on the stock (i.e., the NHL's revenue sharing and LOC) that has been keeping the IceArizona from being buried alive...but even that stock cannot seem to find additional investors (see Frankel's recent exit)...

It all seems to be inching closer and closer to finally seeing the light at the end of the empty shaft...and moving on to somewhere else...

Gary J. Drummond has these positions from the Arizona Coyotes Staff page:
  • Ownership - Co-Owner & Alternate Governor
  • Executives - President of Hockey Ops and Alternate Governor
  • Hockey Operations - President of Hockey Operations

We've only known the franchise was on shaky financials since 2009. It's probably been on shaky financials since the move from the WHA to the NHL.

Well...since moving to the desert...20 years ago...
they were walking but are now, no longer holding that AMF umbrella that was keeping them shaded...
which is now tattered and torn...
instead crawling, s-l-o-w-l-y still crawling...
now quite parched seeking that financial oasis...
but that oasis...is just a mirage...

I wonder how people even managed to go considering how far away from the rest of humanity it has been said to be.

They make generational journeys. A family starts out from Mesa and by the time they reach Glendale, their great grandchildren are left to choose the seats from which their own descendants will see hockey. Vikings have had less epic travels than this.

All you have to do is go to the Coyotes website and take a look. Not hard to find.

You think the financials of a WHA team, even the Jets, were anything but shaky?

That being said the team was probably doing okay when they first joined the NHL. Player salaries were still quite low, city was excited to be in the league, and despite that first dreadful year the team showed some success.

I moved back to Winnipeg in 1989 and even by then there was talk the team needed a new arena or it would all be over. So let's say the franchise has been financially struggling since the mid to late 80s.

Not the point he was attempting to make, Jakey. He was harping about the "mass exodus" of staff from the franchise upon the news of the Coyotes head of player logistics (he's the "travelocity gnome" person) leaving for the same position in Las Vegas. And when that got shown to be a gross exaggeration he shifted gears to equating Gary Drummond's lack of media exposure to Anthony LeBlanc's self-imposed exile from the media (at the league's bequest probably).

Which is another exaggeration in itself but who's keeping tabs when you have a narrrative to keep?
