HF's Team Board Mock Draft

Hey everybody. There's always variations of these every year on this site. The idea is to try to reach a consensus for who each team might pick would the fans of that team be in control.

This does not take into account any previous polls before it. Only the results of this poll will affect the numbers going forward.

Here are the results of the one I set up last season: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...661&highlight=

There's around a month & a half left until the draft, so there will be 48 hours for the first 15 picks, and 24 hours for every pick after that. Obviously, we're only looking for the fans of each team to vote on their pick. This also assumes no trades will be made between picks.

Sabres fans, you have the 8th overall pick!

1. C - Nolan Patrick (81.65%)

2. C - Nico Hischier (90.91%)

3. LD - Miro Heiskanen (71.88%)

4. C - Gabriel Vilardi (41.30%)

5. C - Casey Mittlestadt (47.62%)

6. C/W - Cody Glass (40.00%)

7. W - Owen Tippett (31.37%)

8. ??

9.

10.

Yeah it's interesting. An overwhelming majority of Coyote fans favor Liljegren over Makar and an overwhelming majority of Sabres fans favor Makar over Liljegren.

Now of course watch Arizona draft Makar and Buffalo get Liljegren.

Yet post a 1 for 1 trade the morning after the draft and neither side will give up their gem!

Liljegren has advantages over Makar: size, QOC through two years, a bigger shot, etc.

Makar has better hockey IQ. That's really the selling point. I'll take a smart player who knows what to do all the time over a small advantage in skills any day.

Liljegren is the next Kylington and Makar is the next Scott Niedermayer. At least according to Sabres HF.

Oh. I really have no horse in this draft, meaning I won't be mad who the Sabres pick unless its an outside the box reach however I do favor Liljgren a bit but I never thought he would fall to 8th. I trust Botterill will make the right choice.

You draft Liljegren if you think that his gap control, poor defensive play, and bad decision making is a result of having mono and then coming back at the SHL level. If you're right, you get Doughty-lite. If you're wrong, you end up with Bogosian: all tangibles with poor hockey IQ.

You draft Makar if you think that he'll adjust to higher levels of competition as he grows older and eventually translate his hockey IQ and skills to the NHL. If you're right, you get Karlsson-lite. If you're wrong, you get an AHL defenseman.

Yeah, there's way too much of a consensus--for the good of the fanbase we've got to hedge. I'll start.
I'd totally go Brannstrom, but the poll didn't let me.

Who's next?

Last time we drafted a guy whose poor play was due to mono it didn't turn out so well

I'd be hesitant to draft Liljegren in the top 10

Last year Murray got us 3 players from the top 30 of last years HF poll (Nylander, Asplumd, Pu).

For a guy who gets a lot of **** on here for trading a 1st for Lehner, I don't see him getting many accolades for what could end up several big draft steals.

This has exactly been the account given of GMTM's tenure. He's a heck of a scout who just doesn't understand value.

This is really weird. I can't believe more people don't have concerns over Makar. I voted for him, but considering how little people probably watched him, it seems pretty weird.

Voted Makar, but it was more of a 55% to 45% choice to me between Makar and Liljegren.

I love the skillset that Makar has and I think, based on the limited viewing, the better IQ. I'm not a fan of making comparisons on management/coaches past positions, but Makar has a solid chance to be on the level of Letang. I would love to look forward to a defense core that has the mobility and IQ of: Risto, Makar, and Guhle. I think Liljegren wouldn't be bad to be in that core either, but I believe there is more upside with Makar.

Not to mention that Lehner is a legit starting quality goalie. I don't know what people think the odds are of getting a player who will reach that level with the pick they gave up...but I can tell you they are wrong.

While the voting is lopsided I don't think most believe there is a huge gap between their games, but makar fits the offensive flair.
