A reaction to medication he was taking for a concussion had Okposo in ICU fighting for his life.
I wonder if we ever find out what happened, something seems to have gone very very wrong and he was in grave danger.

Hiring GM Botterill was a great start to the offseason for me.
This would be my Top 10 definition:

1/ Sign Antipin
2/ Hire Housley
3/ Draft Liljegren at #8
4/ Remove Moulson & Georges
5/ Trade Kane for a #3/4
6/ Trade for a scoring winger for Jack. Nash? Tafolli?
7/ Trade for Trevor Lewis as our 4C
8/ Sign Bonino as 3C
9/ Sign Cal Pedersen
10/ Don't sign Gionta. Make Jack captain.

Mix together, preheat oven to 400 and BAKE.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No, too much like Risto but supposedly has the IQ of Bogo
4. Bury Gorges, put Moulson on the 4th LW
5. Yes please
6. Varying on the cost
7. No, I'd rather just sign Boyle unless it's taking salary to get Toffoli
8. While I like Bonino I see no reason to sign another C when we already are overflowing with them
9. Yes
10. I'd be interested in Williams and/or Gionta for vet wingers
11. Captaincy to Jack or OReilly

I hope we send a QO to Rodriquez and play him on the wing.

One of the common threads that stuck out is all the highly drafted prospects who haven't lived up to their billing. Can't disagree. Our #1 priority needs to be getting our developmental system on track.

Which top pick hasn't developed?

Reinhart?

Surely his development path was fine. Except for his position at the NHL.

Our other high picks have gone pretty smoothly.

Ristolainen isn't overrated at all. If anything he's underrated. Fans who look at fancy stats tend to believe hey those are all his. But you're forgetting that there are 4 other players playing with the guy.

Ristolainen' numbers would be much better had he been on a good team. He never once had a top 2 defenseman he was paired with. McCabe was the only one who had shown any type of flash when he was paired with Ristolainen .

Fancy stats have their place but they shouldn't be the only thing taaken into count to decide the players worth. That's why GM's and scouts watch games. If they were just going by "fancy stats" they would just stay home and collect data from the internet.

1. Yes.
2. Either Housley or Tocchet would be great here.
3. Draft best defenseman available.
4. Remove Moulson and Bogosian. Keep Gorges as a bottom pair. He's got only a year left as opposed to Bogosian.
5. Trade for any of the top 4 D that LV picks up. I'd send Girgensons and Bailey LV's way.
6. Sign Kane to multi year deal.
7. Nash sucks. Toffoli didn't show much of anything last season. I'm trading something Nashville's way for Neal.
8. No Bonino.
9. Sign Petersen
10. Let all UFA's walk except Lehner. Resign him to a cheap deal.
11. Make ROR or Eich captain.

Reinhardt, yes, but I'm also looking at Risto, Girgensons, & Ennis.

Girgensons is really the only one of those whose development was possibly bungled. Reinhart and Risto are developing just fine. They need to be used better (as does Zemgus) as they continue to develop.

Ennis spent more than enough time in the minors. His issues are that he doesn't have good hockey IQ or vision and that he is frequent injured. I fail to see what could have been done differently. Often people's expectations are simply erroneous.

Well just because someone spent time in the minors, doesn't mean it was time well spent. We haven't had a decent team in Rochester / Portland for a long time. And frankly, I can' speak to the quality of coaching in the AHL. But there are more outcomes than simply bungling or not. There are obviously degrees to which these developmental assets are successfully actualized.

I am not saying I know Ennis would be better now had he had better development- I don't know that. But who on our roster can we point to that indicates that we have a successful developmental program? Foligno?

As to Risto and Reinhart developing just fine, I hope you're right. Though I believe the jury is still out. I am also crossing my fingers on Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching, & Carrier.

The most exciting aspect to Botterill's resume in my opinion, is the commitment to strengthening organizational ties to Rochester.

Fair enough. I just think we had poor drafting up until 2013, with 2014 being a weak draft on top of it. Some of our guys just weren't as good as we hoped they'd be. Ennis to me fits that. Girgensons on the other hand, he had an odd development path. I think he has the talent to be a better player. Part of that is usage, part is confidence, and part is development.

I agree in general that we need to be a better development team. Murray stressed that as well, but it's too early to see if his staff was doing it well. Obviously the Amerks sucked, but it looks like the forward prospects there have been developing well so far. Hopefully Botterill can build on that while also improving the Amerks.

Girgs I guess, but he isn't a sure fire pick as a mid teen. And personally I still think highly of girgs. I think he has been poorly utilized and has some glaring ugly spots in his game, the random fall downs, lack of production.

But he continues to build his defensive iq. His first year it was all hustle and reckless. By last year I think he has gotten a lot better at reading the play on defense. His puck control has improved.

Zadorov would be a good example. He should have seen more AHL time to build mind and get used to pro hockey without pro money.

Zadorov was gone from Buffalo before he was even eligible to play in the AHL.

1.) Yes
2.) Yes
3.) I'd go a different direction.
4.) Only going to get rid of a contract to Vegas until next off-season.
5.) Yes
6.) No need.
7.) Why? O'Reilly - Eichel - Reinhart - Larsson spine makes Lewis unneeded.
8.) See above.
9.) Yes
10.) Depends on how the off-season goes. Gionta can be a late add. Maybe on Eichel as captain.

If Reinhart is still on Jacks wing, Bonino absolutely makes sense as a 3C. Bonino was fantastic today, great speed and adds veteran leadership with his name on the Cup.

I think Bonino is a fantastic player. But a few thoughts:

- Most fans want to see Reinhart, a more talented player with tremendous underlying metrics, at center on his own line. That means ROR or Eichel move to wing, or Reinhart continues to play out of position.

- Along with the last thought, the Sabres are struggling on defense, not center. Bonino is going to cost cap space better spent on defense. Bonino is going to rightly ask for around $4-5M per season for what will probably be his last big contract. He's 29.

- Would Bonino be the same player in Buffalo at 30 years old? And how much does he have left? Seems like a gamble to pay for a player who relies on relentless play. Those types fall off much quicker than centers who rely on skill or positioning.
