As a Knights fan I have appreciated SK's great season. As a human being, I remember myself at 15 v. 18, sorry no comparison. JT by a long, long ways deserves this award. In order to preserve the sanctity of the board, I will not describe the 15 v. 18 differences that I remember...

If Tavares was a normal sized 15 year old there might be more of a point.

I think Tavares should have won, but I still think the age factor is irrelevant. The criteria is performance, not when his birth certificate was issued. Forget when the player was born and gauge their rookie years.

On the other hand the gap between the performances of Tavares and SK was not tht large. Sergei is a great player, which is underlined by his 3 goals last night.

I agree, the gap is small. Sergei is a great player as underlined by his TWO goals last night and three assists.

..........and deservedly so. Why doesn't the league have a different category for the Europeans - like newcomer of the year (or rookies w/peach fuzz vs. rookies w/ actual beards -LOL) so we're not comparing apples and oranges ?

I wouldn't mind seeing an import of the year award.

You are indeed correct. The 3rd marker was erased as Bolland tipped it in for the tying marker. It was quite loud last nite and they originally announced the goal as his. My daughter who has much better hearing skills heard an announcement later in OT that even the Knights must have missed since they gave him the hat trick sombrero after the game.

All these kids are skilled players. Tavares "won" the award and I have no doubt he deserved it. I'd be just as happy to have Couture or Kosty on my team though.

PS: If Tavares is as good as he looks, he will be in the NHL by 18 anyway

I think that would be a great idea - some of the imports come over and set the league on its ear, and they should be recognized differently than a 16 year old rookie.
