He is older now. I think he turns 30 next season. KC cut him for cap reasons.
He just turned 29 in mid May, so he will play the whole 2017 season as a 29 year old. For a wide receiver his age isn't a concern. He likely has 3-4 seasons at least of being a NFL caliber starting wide out. With Sammys injury history, I think Maclin is a great addition as insurance. We can't afford to play any games this season with Sammy out and a guy like Holmes or Brown as the #2 behind Zay Jones. And even if Sammy stays healthy there's plenty of balls to go around for Maclin. Sammy isn't a high volume type of guy, I don't think Sammy will ever be pulling down 100-110 catches a season, but 80 catches at a 15 ypc clip sounds about right.

Tyrod had 269 completions in 15 games. Make it a full season and with an improvement in the passing game I can see him completing ~340 passes this year.

Sammy-70
Zay-50
Clay-50
DiMarco-30
Maclin-60
Shady-40

That will leave 40-50 completions for the Tolberts, Browns,Holmes etc. If we are rolling out Sammy,Maclin,Jones,Clay,Shady for the majority of plays then there's little need for Holmes and Brown to be out there. Pretty much just trying to say there is plenty of opportunity for Maclin to come in and Earn his pay and snag 60 catches this season and that's assuming Sammy is fully healthy. IGN he inevitably misses time then there's plenty of balls to go around.

I think it lines up pretty well. The QB was the receiver coach in KC last year, so he has a history. McCoy knows him from Philly, and McDermott has history with Maclin as he was the D-Coordinator in 2009-2010, which was Maclin's rookie year with Philly as well.

If they have the cap room to make it happen (savings front Tyrod's restructure?) I don't see why they shouldn't. He's got experience, has won and isn't a trouble maker. He'd be a solid add in my opinion, and would change the look of the offense a bit.

I was unaware of all the links we have to him in regards to the coaching staff. Regardless, he's a high end WR anyway and should be a top priority. Maclin would have been in the top tier among UFA WRs this past spring every bit as good as Pryor, DJax and Jeffrey.

Maclin is a must sign for us. Watkins is unrestricted after this year. Maclin would be a huge insurance policy. I'd go as high as 4/28 for Maclin. That's Robert Woods type money he got and Maclin is far far better.

I was excited at the idea of Barnidge signing here, but signing Jeremy Maclin would be a coup for this franchise. He's a legit starting WR. He's a low end #1/high end #2. I really hope Beane goes after him HARD.

Shady already recruiting Maclin per ESPN and said don't be surprised if it happens....I can definitely see him signing here. Would be a major addition. Adding Maclin means with or without Watkins in the lineup we'll have at least two quality WRs with Zay Jones also in place.

If it happens, the Bills really lucked out with how they handled WRs this offseason.

We went from cap trouble to huge cap cushion that allowed us to fill our biggest hole via UFA. It's nice having competency at the top again. If he signs, the only question mark is at safety, correct?

Yes depending how Poyer turns out. Hyde is solid as ****.

Please Beane sign maclin. He is a legit top 20-25 wr.

LB and offensive line are still question marks, but there are at least potential solutions in house. We'll see how Ragland/Brown do and whether Dawkins can solidify the tackle spot.

MCCOY'S CAMPAIGN: MACLIN FOR BUFFALO
Quote:

He was just at Jeremy Maclin's wedding two weeks ago. Now LeSean McCoy is trying to recruit his former Eagles teammate to join him in Buffalo following his release from the Chiefs last week.

Letting Gilmore go to another team isn't really competency.

Hopefully they get maclin done. Seems like a perfect fit.

I'm still trying to fully understand the cap management aspect of the Nfl.. I find it amazing how a potentially bad situation can be cured so quickly. Non guaranteed contracts help I suppose...

I would stop short of calling Zay Jones, a small school rookie with a bum knee who hasn't played a game, a quality WR. Also, Maclin caught 44 balls last year.

Some of your statement is true but then you say "bum knee" and "small school".....making your statement, in general, stupid.

While I can see calling a school with enrollment of 29000 small might be wrong, it is in the AAC which is not one of the power 5 conferences and East Carolina hasn't been a true hotbed of NFL talent as some other schools so from a football stand point East Carolina isn't Ohio St/Alabama/Florida St./Clemson/etc.

He is also currently out with an injured knee. https://buffalowdown.com/2017/05/20/...buffalo-bills/

Small enrollment- no
Small football footprint- yes

Hurt knee- yes

Not seeing how his statement is that "stupid".

Good luck to your Pirates this season!
