Agreed. I like Maclin, but not on a 1 year deal, I'd rather sign him for a few years moving forward or just save the cap space and roll it over to next year.

If we had Maclin for the next few years it gives us options with Watkins and makes this team better long-term, which is good. But a 1 year deal accomplishes nothing.

I think you're all being stupid and breaking a 17 year drought is more important to the team's culture than anything, even if it takes a 1-year contract to do so. The guy is old and has injuries, it's preferable term is short.

Yeah, I'd prefer not going into a season where a Watkins injury means our top 2 receivers are zay Jones and Andre Holmes. Not that maclin is amazing but he's a better #1 option than either one of the other guys if sammy goes down.

Maclin has had injury concerns the last couple of seasons. So maybe they'd like to see how well he rebounds before making a longer commitment in dollars and/or term. At any rate, he improves the talent on the team and gives Taylor another good weapon.

The guy is old? Injuries?

No, he isn't old and his injuries are not anything to be too concerned about. No more than any other player in this league.

I know that's my complaint, he improves the talent enough to grab an extra win. Still leaves them outside. Still doesn't break the streak. Just moves them from drafting in the 6-10 range to the 8-12 range. That's about as worst case scenario as I could ask for.

It's happy season. Zay Jones is 100% quality starting WR now.

If the Bills sign Maclin, it's a good signing. Increases both talent level and depth at the position.

People are seriously worried it will cost the Bills a couple wins and a few draft choices on the season?

Maclin's impact above who he is replacing from last year, with some assumed upside acruing to Sammy as well (assuming both stay healthy) because of better overall receiving talent between the pair, is likely 2-3 catches worth 25-35 incremental yards per game. That's worth ~2 points per game. Given the number of games in NFL decided by 7 points or less, that might get 1-2 wins. Might.

I see the signing, if it happens, as more about protecting downside than helping upside.

He gives Tyrod zero excuse to not succeed this season, which makes our future commitment to him clear one way or the other. Even if we are out of the playoffs, this is important enough. Drafting 6-10 vs. 8-12 isn't a big deal compared to locking up Tyrod for 5 years with guaranteed up the wazoo because he had enough excuses through the season despite him not being worth that.

New FO new coach, back to the type of system our players succeeded in, with a better offense coupled with it. You're being far too pessimistic to ever be in the position our FO is, to be tanking any chances on making this season better over a couple of draft picks....

Really, we are going to take umbrage calling Zay Jones a quality starting WR? In today's NFL a starting WR can be a slot/#3 WR. Zay Jones is the all time fbs leader in catches and was a high pick. He's expected to be a decent WR. Taking offense in calling Zay Jones a quality WR is a little curious. While I had him 5th on my WR list behind Williams, Davis, Ross and Smith-Schuster I still expect him to develop into a guy who can catch 70-80 balls and 1,000 yards in a season.

Yes. 2nd round WRs are 50/50 to simply last in the league 4+ years. Far less than 50/50 to end up as quality starting WRs. Even less to be a quality starting WR in their rookie year. Plus, he has higher bust potential since he was basically playing a different game at ECU. And there's a higher than normal possability that Jones just may not have the physical tools to last in the NFL.

Robert Meachem. It was Chophouse. And the Bills dodged a bullet on that one.
