Do the lightening have a goalie they can leave open for expansion?

There's a point where this guy couldn't make an NHL roster and now he has a team who's "very interested" in signing him. Good for him.

He's always been a good backup imo would be happy if the Oilers got him to backup Talbot

Need to find a very capable backup for Vasy. He still has to grow. A veteran back up will be good for him. I think Budaj fits that bill.

They traded for Bishop because they couldn't afford to drop games down the stretch, had a ton of back to back games which Quick doesn't do, and they got Bishop on the cheap. There was no reason to not pick him up. Not to mention Budaj was slipping before we moved him.

He checks all the boxes..

1. Cheap
2. Veteran
3. Willing to take a short term deal
4. Able to capably play 20ish games

Vasy played 50 games this year....he will easily play 60 this year. They just need a veteran guy who can play 20ish games. Budaj only made 600k last year and will likely only be looking at 1 or 1.5 this year on a 1 year deal. Great for a cap-strapped team.

However, note that Budaj has a tendency to falter during the playoffs. He's more of a "season goalie".

Amazing how fast this guy got it going. Great year, watching him in St.John's with the Habs AHL team it was almost clear his career was done

Something wonky happened if Budaj plays for the Lightning in the playoffs.

Mandela effect? He won't go to the K.

He's an above average backup, good to keep around I'd say.

I just googled it. It was reported on some Slovak site that he was ready to sign with Salavat Julajev. Guess that didn't happen.

Backups usually don't play during the playoffs.

"Bood-eye"

great backup/team guy, so long as you don't need him to start consistently
