Pens go about 37 minutes without a shot, then score on their next shot.

4 goals on 9 SOG. I've seen this story unfold before.

These Penguins are going to be one of the most underwhelming Stanley Cup winners in a long time. Can't get a shot on goal for 37 minutes, and when they finally do it's in the back of the net. Next shot on goal is in the empty net for the insurance goal.

Bleh

I get so mad seeing this version of the Penguins win game one in the finals when we know we could have been better. It's infuriating how much they are doing this

Less infuriating when you refuse to watch. We all know how it ends.

This year's defeat is self inflicted. That Cup was ours to take, it just required a full 60 min effort in game 7. That's it, that's what decided the Cup winner.

How many times have they faced the biggest game of their careers and laid a total egg? Demoralizing franchise.

Yes, we have it. A goal refused in the SCF by a BS rule, and by a BS decision by the refs.
Nice job NHL.

It drives me insane, because I know we'll never get another chance like this. We had a relatively easy path and we blew it. Typical Washington Capitals.

Every year in the end of the second round. For some reason we're also unable to get lucky victories like that team from Western PA.

That's on the players themselves for choking. The DRAFT TALENT gap is not significant enough to say the Pens had an advantage in the draft that gave them so many Cups while we do nothing.

I will never ever ever understand how scoring 5 goals on 12 shots turned out to be a multi-series, Cup-Winning strategy.

When the Caps were doing this earlier in the year it was considered unsustainable.

most would agree, right?

i mean, what does their practice look like - defensemen shell 7 or 8 guys for 20 minutes, and then one guy has to take off on a breakaway and score, or else skate laps?

How will teams "emulate the cup winner" going forward. it seems the narrative is they play a speed game, but that's not *really* been the case this PO.
arghh. it's maddening. has to be the damn Penguins getting this lucky.

Nice subtle pick by Sid before the Malkin PPG

Does out shooting your opponent in the playoffs lead to victory, in the modern coin flip parity era? I feel like a team shouldn't worry about appearing to be inferior, for the refs will feel bad for you and try to keep the game close.

Some of the NBC commentators (may have been Pierre McGuire) referred to that as a "continuation play". I've never heard that term used in hockey before. Heard it in baseball and basketball but could not find any hockey reference when I googled it. From the git go and when I saw replays of it, it was plain interference and when you're in a 5 v 3 PP and you get away with interfering with one of the 3 remaining, unless your name is Crosby or you have a Penguin on your jersey, 9 times out of 10 that will be called. BTW Daley's fall after Neal contacted him, that was Series A worthy embellishment, he should be playing for the likes of AC Roma.

Pittsburgh showed a lot of heart and character by scoring 3 soft goals.
