The Bright side.....

.....is that they are hanging in there.

Very frustrating since the break. Nothing coming easy now. The Rangers have been bent pretty hard....but not broken. The Rangers are still getting points in a very difficult stretch of games. Jagr has taken the team on his back and is showing great leadership. Good signs of mental toughness. The game against the Fleas with three days rest will be huge.

Bottom line: The Rangers have already made us proud to be fans again. They make the playoffs. It's going to get better.

i agree, however we shouldnt just settle for making the playoffs. since the olympic break i feel they have let up a little bit.

but have no fear, when the sheriff gets back in town (Kasparaitis) we will be back where we need to be...

I agree, most expected 45-55 points this season. 90 and counting is a great accomplishment. It's hard to see them not put forth the effort we've come to enjoy viewing the last few months, but a few wins will change all that.

You have to wonder if fatigue is becoming a factor. How much time is there between the end of the regular season and the first game of the playoffs.

The Rangers will probably end up with 100 pts this season which is amazing. When was the last time a Rangers team put up 100pts? 93-94 (I have no idea but that is the last time can remember off the top of my head)? Every team goes through these off times throughout a season. The fact that they are still picking up pts in the process is a positive aspect. Not to mention since the break the Rangers have had some injury problems (Prucha, Rucinsky, Kaspar to name a few). Even with these injuries that have remained competetive and battling for the top spot in the Atlantic. No worries! Rangers playoff hockey is back! The playoffs are a totally new season where anything can happen. Let's look at the brightspots so far this season and watch the Rangers march through the playoffs and bring the fans home a 5th Stanely Cup!

Yeah, I'm proud of them too, but I still want the division. I know we're more than capable of taking down Philly. It's like GMU- no one expected them to be where they are, but now that people know what they are capable of, they are expected to play well.

UConn up 47-46, 13 and change to go. Go Pats!

I think Jagr should wear the "C" for the playoffs. He's certainly earned it, and has been the obvious leader (interviews, on the bench, etc..) this last stretch. Do you think he'll get it?

I brought that up a couple weeks back but at least then it was shot down. I'd still say that Jags should wear the "C" at least in the postseason. If not at any other time, its then that the team needs to show it has an official leader, not just a leader they know they have, but a leader they can show off

Yeah, I think a team should have a nominal captain for the playoffs. I think if they offered it to Jagr again, he'd accept it for the postseason.

GMU up 82-80 with less than 2 minutes to go in OT.

And GMU does it!

It's frustrating, but the Sabres are also having the druthers. If you took a time machine back to the start of this season and posted the board regulars were disappointed and upset that the Rangers were having trouble holding on to 1st place, you'd be dismissed as a lunatic.

I can't even comment on the slide, since I've been consitently blacked out by the Sabres or Knicks (and was out last night).

I'd enjoy seeing the Rangers hit the 100 point mark. Just gotta win 5 out of the last 11 games (which is very reasonable) and we got it. Plus, with 100 points, that may just be enough to win the division, but I think 102 or 104 would make us a lock for it.

Can the sheriff score a couple goals for us also?

1) Unless things totally go off the rails(which they won't), we get at least 100 pts. I'm thinking more.

2) Fatigue is definitely setting in, but a three day break before the next Flea encounter should help. Hollweg is back for that game. Getting the HMO line back together should help also.

3) Jagr has said several times he does not want the "C" because it distracts him from his game and he does not want that responsibility. Let's not give him ANY distractions and hope Renney keeps Prucha on that line.

This entire season has been a bright side, which is my main reason for completely dismissing any sort of negativity I see coming from anyone at this point. Fastest rebuild ever!

Then entire season has been...

a joy, overall. I wouldn't say, however, the fastest rebuild ever, however. This team is not rebuilt....yet. We'll talk about that midway through next season, perhaps.

I would be very disappointed if they limped into the playoffs and lost in the first round, however. That would make me quite skeptical of this team's success this season.

The rebuild is a work in progress. Instead of doing it all at once--it looks like we will be doing it in stages. It's worked to this extent that Lundqvist, Prucha and Tyutin have proven they are for real and with any luck will all be around for a long time. It's a little bit more up in the air after that. The way it looks though is that Dawes and Immonen are at least very close. And Staal has a real shot. I'm also very high on Greg Moore, Dubinsky, Baranka and Montoya and I think at least some of them will get some playing time with us next season.

not sure if stages is the proper term. The organiztion's prospects, at the beginning of the season, were still young. Many still in college or juniors. Others in their first or second AHL season. Next season should be interesting to start. There will be several AHLers, and maybe one or two out of college or juniors who may make a push to be in the NHL. That's when we'll see how this rebuild is going.

I think the so-called rebuild this year hasn't been all that successful to be honest. I mean, we are winning for the first time in a long while, but I dont see us giving our young players big minutes, except for Prucha and Lunqvist. We've had great success this year, but mostly on the shoulders of Jagr. The young guys that are playing right now (excpet prooch) will probably wind up only being 4th line centers.

We're stockpiling talent for sure, but i don't feel like we're having a successful rebuild just because of this successful season.

Lundqvist...

in terms of the rebuild, you need to look beyond the NHL, since coming into the season, there weren't a lot of under 25 year olds ready to make the jump (which is somewhat disappointing considering there was an entire season lost and the extra year should yield more yoots ready for action). But that's how it was to start the season. Hopefully we'll start seeing the fruits of the many draft picks gained over the last couple seasons.
