I really like Boyer as a mop up guy. Comes in, throws hard, gets weak contact. I'm here for it. He looks good as the last guy in the pen

I felt like Pedroia was due for a long term injury this year. This isn't it, although it could be a harbinger.

MLB Notes:

Harper vs. Strickland I: Strickland, the automatic 6 gms for inciting brawl; Harper got 4, for the helmet chuck, both appealing;

then night 2 of Nationals/Giants loses Hall of Famer Willie Mays prior to game

Meant to post this when Kimberly pitched what many referred to as a "perfect inning" --- 9 pitches 3 strike outs.

I don't consider that a perfect inning.....I'd say 3 batters - 3 pitches - 3 line outs to the pitcher is a perfect inning.

Splitting hairs, sure, but to me you can't do better than 1 pitch per batter, each resulting in an out.

weak dribblers to 2nd (for righties) or SS (lefties). if it goes to the pitcher he has to make an additional throw

With the new "no pitch intentional walk" rule, you can have one pitch innings. Intentionally walk batters A and B without throwing a pitch. Get a triple play on pitch #1 to batter C. It may not be "perfect" in the sense that there are base runners, but it can't get more efficient for a pitcher than a one pitch inning.

I take out the word "perfect" if the batter was able to make contact with the ball IMO.

Unless it's a line drive.

Ken Harrelson, who has won five Emmy’s during his time in the booth, will work 20 games next season, with most of them coming on Sunday home dates, according to a press release issued by the White Sox.

"It has been an amazing honor for me to deliver White Sox baseball to generations of fans," Harrelson said. "It's never work when you come to a ballpark each day, and I have loved and appreciated every minute I have experienced in this great game."
"Hawk has left a lasting imprint on the game of baseball across what will be an amazing career in the game," White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said in a statement. "There will never be another personality in the booth quite like Hawk Harrelson."

'Mercy' AND 'Put it on the Board.... Yes' TWO of the classics....

you deserve it 'Hawk', AND THANKS FROM BOTH Boston and Chicago

Hutch - Hawk's use of Mercy is a salute to Hawk's partner on TV38 from 1979-81 - Ned Martin.

Hawk was mainly color from 75-78 as Dick Stockton wanted the mike but Ned happily gave Hawk more innings to learn the craft.

For some reason TV38 did not archive Red Sox tapes like they did with the Bruins.

I remember as a yute waiting in line at Hobby Caters in Beverly to get a long since lost autograph from the Hawk. Harrelson parlayed 1 big year in Boston 1968 to the cover of SI and an iconic status at that time.

There are photos of Harrelson in clothes and with women that still crack me up.

Ah to be able to remember the 60's and been a teen in the 70's
