What Kimbrel is doing right now is some historic ****. We've already been blessed with arguably the greatest relief season of all time by Koji, Kimbrel is somehow being even more dominant

It's incredible what he's done so far this season.

Steve Lyons actually made a good point on the post game last night about how he comes in, and strikes out the side, and while he did that last season as well, he does it on 12-13 pitches this year as opposed to the 25-30 we often saw last year.

Hasn't allowed a hit to a right handed batter in almost 50 AB's now. Didn't walk a batter in 65 AB's until the other day.

Compared to the Kimbrel we saw last season, it's incredible.

Dombrowski gave up a lot for him, but this version makes that deal a lot easier to swallow.

I just hope his and Sales' performances aren't going to be wasted. The Sox have hovered around .500 they need to get it going.

What a trainwreck the Mets are this season.

from cbssports.com:

Wednesday night at Citi Field, a fan recorded Mr. Met making an obscene gesture, which prompted an apology from the team.

Not surprisingly, the Mets will have someone new wear the Mr. Met costume going forward.

Sox & Orioles II

Do we see a repeat of round 1;

Machado and Adam Jones part Deux?

Something about erod falling down in the bullpen? Please tell me that's not why he got shelled tonight. Better not become a thing.

There was one play that could have turned this game in the Sox favour, Marrero had a DP lined up , but he and Rutledge screwed it up, I still think Rutledge had time to throw to first even with a bad throw from Marrero, but also Marrero should have just tagged the guy in front of him and then threw to first. If they get that DP it is still a 4-1 game and the sox came back, would have been 5-4 , bring in Kimbrel and game over.

Fwiw I've read that Kimbrel had a finger injury he pitched through last year which caused him to constantly yank the ball.

That spike in walks made a lot more sense after I saw that

I didn't get to watch a bunch of him but it looked like his leg was bothering him

He, of course, has a history of knee issues. I hope it's nothing in the long run. Things were going too smoothly for him I guess

He's starting to frustrate me. Very talented but can't stay healthy and put a full year together.

And porcello has been very disappointing so far this year.

Porcello's BAbip is .370 right now...gotta think that part of his struggles have been due to being unlucky and that number will come down some.

For reference, he was at .269 last year and is at .311 for his career. So I would guess he will end up this year somewhere between what he did last season and what we have seen thus far.

I wonder if Kershaws wind up contributes to his dominance. His stuff isn't overpowering, but very deceiving

Well he just turned 24, I'd say he's been great for that.

Not many 24 year old SP putting together full years

Former Boston Red Sox center fielder Jimmy Piersall died Saturday at age 87. The Red Sox announced Piersall’s death in a statement Sunday morning. Piersall, who began his career in Boston played eight of his 17 major league seasons with the Red Sox, was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2010. He also spent time with the Cleveland Indians, Washington Senators, New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels before retiring in 1967. After his playing career was over, Piersall worked as a broadcaster for the Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox.

A native of Waterbury, Conn., Piersall earned two Gold Glove Awards and twice was selected to the All-Star Game. Known as a premier defensive player, his .990 career fielding percentage led all outfielders who played in at least 1,000 games between 1920 and 1970, according to the Red Sox. Piersall battled mental illness during his career, suffering a nervous breakdown during the 1952 season. He chronicled his struggles in his autobiography, “Fear Strikes Out,” which was made into a feature film in 1957.

Yeison coca is the ptbnl in the thornburg deal

He's a long ways away but he has the makings of a legitimate prospect.

It's a gift that keeps on giving!
