This is stupid. Remy was complaining because he's a dumb homer who thinks he's scoring points with some yahoo fans about how the Yankees are cheating along with all the other stuff that goes with it.

If the Red Sox had a player who needed a translator they'd probably give the guy one of those dumbass "Red Sox Culture" graphics between innings and Jerry would be telling us what the dude had for breakfast at the hotel that morning.

Lighten up Francis, it was a joke.

Maybe this is just me, but I think anyone who is going to live/work in a foreign country should have the common courtesy to try to learn the language. Years ago when my wife and I went to Italy, even though it was only 10 days, we went out of our way to learn some basic Italian before we went. The first night we were there we ended up in a small restaurant where nobody spoke English. The food was great and while our Italian absolutely sucked, you could tell that the owner appreciated the effort we were making to at least try to speak the native language.

If I was going to go live/work in another country, I would definitely learn the language. I'm not sure how else a situation like this should be handled. If you can't be bothered to do that, be prepared for the fallout.

It should be handled like it currently gets handled. Allowing translators to make mound visits because the league probably put more thought into it than what Clark Griswold did to prepare for his European Vacation.

You are either dense or being purposely obtuse.

My point was that if you want to go earn a living in another country (especially an exceptionally high-paying living)...learn how to speak the ******* language.

Is that clear enough for you?

So you're a "learn to speak the language guy". At least it's out there now.

Pathetic. I played with baseball players through college that had issues with the English language. That's not a joke by the way. Legitimate disability.

By all accounts Tanaka speaks conversational English, which is wildly different than trying to communicate effectively in 30 seconds during a pressurized situation.

They came up with a rule. It was likely based on more than "why don't these lazy foreigners just learn the language, I would" Get it now? You're wrong, and you're wrong in a way I wouldn't want to be associated with.

I may DVR Felger and Mazz tomorrow.

It's going to be classic.

These two teams should be a treat to watch over the next 5 years. Can't remember the last time they both had good young talent at the same time.

That said, I can't think of a worse fit than Price and Boston. Reminds me of when Randy Johnson went to the Yankees

Don't think I'll stop being annoyed that they low balled Lester and overpaid Price until the guy is gone...or he turns things around.

Honestly **** him. You wanna blow up at the media the come up with THAT. He could go tomorrow and this team wouldn't be any worse in the long run. It wouldn't shock me if he was traded this year, if any team will have him at that contract. He's a joke.

Yeah I don't care that he blew up at the media. Not even a little bit. **** em

Gotta pitch better than tonight obviously. Awful outing. Stems from poor control/command. Not surprising after the long DL stint and short rehab stint but he showed he was more than capable last time out. Need better and I think they'll get better eventually. Hopefully soon. Pitchers have needed an adjustment period coming here for whatever reason. Wonder if it has to do with the shoulder program or something. Probably just playing in the AL East and Fenway regularly tbh. Pitching philosophy changes a little here due to the odd dimensions

162 games.

(Figured I'd be the glass half full guy)

I don't care that much about yelling at the media except the media has treated price more than fair. Beat writers never say anything negative about him. He just comes across as a giant tool who melts when the heat is on...both on and off the field.

Price did not have a good game for certain, but lets give the guy a bit of time before everyone rags on him, he did just come back from being out most of the season so far and I still think he will be a solid #2 behind Sale. As for his rant to the media I don't blame him at all, I love all Boston teams and have been a pro Boston fan since I started watching sports as a kid, but the media in Boston flat out sucks, only Montreal can match it when talking about the habs. Some Boston media people like Haggs have no clue half the time what they are talking about or even the sport they cover.

You haven't been paying attention then. The media has not given david price a tough time. At all.

Price has received minimal criticism besides pointing out the blatently obvious lack luster playoff performances. I'd argue Panda has received way more and has handled it better. Right now Price reminds me of Ryan Leaf blowing up at reporters, at least back it up by beating the Yankees if you're going to act like idiot to the media.

I'm a "learn to speak the language guy"?

Is that a thing?

You seem to be implying that this is some sort of anti-foreigner stance and that I'm being discriminatory? It's not. If you had paid attention to my previous post at all, that pointless little story would have illustrated that this isn't some sort of xenophobia, I think Americans should learn the language of a foreign country they are going to be working in as well.

Nice try though.

ps Been watching the game for a lot of years and I'm not sure I have ever seen a "pressurized situation" in baseball so intense that it requires a translator.

pss WTF does playing with American players who had legit speech/language disabilities have to do with this situation?

GD I think there are a group of people whose view on your stance would be that it HAS to be racist. In other words, if you think a foreign person ought to try to assimilate, a stance I'd say many Americans (people on the whole) have, you are racist. I don't understand it, I don't agree one bit with it, but that's their stance. The basic theory I guess is that everyone should be on equal footing, and if they aren't, then accommodations should be made. In that sense it sort of aligns with a hyper-liberal/socialist political view.

Personally I think Tanaka ought to learn how to communicate simply because I think it would be better for him, and I think any suggestion he's better off "practicing" is silly. These guys have a ton of time they don't spend "practicing", and there would be a ton of benefit to him in ways that affect his team if he learned to communicate better. However, I also don't care if he uses a translator. Doesn't make him lazy and it doesn't slow down the game that I can tell. Remy's entire point just seems like a dumb take. But again, you simply aren't allowed to have a take of any kind if it regards a non-white male. That's what it boils down to. If you do, you are going to get an anal probe from the PC police for anything that can be turned into racism. And that's what Remy got, and now you get it because now you are "wrong in a way that someone wouldn't want to be associated with". Hope you can live with that.
