Flyers Cliches.

I just want to put together a small list, a sort of HF gospel if you will, of all the cliches that get thrown around this board regarding the Flyers franchise. After that, if you would like to make a comment on disproving each one that would be greatly apppreciated, that way we have avoid the irritation of having to retype six paragraphs for someone who thinks they have all the answers.

1. Goaltending
2. The Lindros Trade
3. Clarke Hates Russians
4. The Flyers Are Slow
5. Brashear Sucks At Fighting

2. For starters, Clarke never made that trade. Second, Lindros turned the franchise around in less than two years. He was a perennial all-star who very well could have been the most dominating player in history had it not been for injuries. He had the complete package but lacked maturity.

4. The only players that can be characterized as slow are Turner Stevenson, Donald Brashear, Derian Hatcher, Mike Rathje, and Chris Therien. Therien's not really a regular, and Stevenson was waived not too long ago so I don't get it. By my count that leaves us with three regular players with lead feet. Too many posters are looking at those three instead of Jeff Carter, Simon Gagne, Sami Kapanen, Keith Primeau, Joni Pitkanen, and Kim Johnsson; all players with excellent foot speed.

5. Donald Brashear doesn't fight nearly as much any more but whenever he does it's usually a decisive win. This year alone HF.cm has him listed as 4-3-1 with the loss against Goddard being a toss up based on the fact that he drew blood. I'll repeat it again, he doesn't fight as much but when huggy bear get's mad you had better watch out.

3. If BC was so against euros then why did over half of the 2003-2004 Philadelphia Flyers consist of european players? Why did he draft Joni Pitkanen (a Finn) ahead of Ryan Whiteney? The list could go on but the fact remains that Clarke only wants hard working players who won't disappear come playoff time, thus why he had such a massive roster turnover.

If we win the cup this year with Forsberg, I dont think that trades looks nearly as bad. , b/c we got everything Eric brang then got the centerpiece he was traded for back years later and eventually got the cup. And theres only one word to describe the Big E in his hayday, UNSTOPPABLE. He would have been a legend.

anyway, just thought id way in

The one that has been irking me the most lately is that the Sens dominate the Flyers. People fail to realize that there are only 6 players on this team who played against the Sens a few years ago, but they can't get over the name on the front of the jersey's.

Right on with that comment.

Flyers have a goon mentality.
Clarke loves big slow defensmen.
Clarke is a terrible GM and with a cap in place it will show.
The Flyers are one of reasons there was a lockout as there big spending ways kept small market teams from competing.
Clarke has no class.
Clarke makes stupid trades.

That is true. At one point you could say Canes as well. Kapanen was one, Primeau was one, Danny Markov was one but the Coyotes definitely are our biggest supplier of players.

Fedotenko was traded for Pitkanen, Zelepukin is in the middle of nowhere, Markov was dealt for capspace because he's injury prone, Timander retired, and Yushkevich retired to Russia. Any other questions?

Yes Prospal. Why did we give him up?

People love to say that. Funny thing is, if we are what people claim us to be, why is there SO MANY Philadelphia fans? I mean not just Flyers but Eagles or even Phillies fans as well? People will say that but they would never say it to a Philly fan face to face and we all know why.

I'm really fond of the recent one that since Forsberg is on the team and Forsberg is a diver, Flyers fans can't call other players divers. What a crock of BS. Like we're all automatically blind that he's a chronic diver.

And similarly, since the Flyers have Brashear, Hatcher, and Gauthier, we can't call other players cheapshot artists. Give me a freaking break.

Also, the slow defense needs to be reworked: because the Flyers have Hatcher, the entire D is slow. His blackhole of skating engulfs the abilities of Pitkanen, Johnsson, Desjardins and Meyer apparently, even though they are all fine skaters. And never mind that Hatcher and Rathje spent, until this year, their ENTIRE careers in the Western Conference when the WC was the speedy, agile conference and the EC was the grinding, physical conference.

But we are all tough S.O.Bs!
