Expansion Watch: Pickard selected (Updated Rumored Selections on post #435)

Figure it's time for a thread since things should get moving. My hope is to keep all expansion related chatter here, not just Avs related. So any trades or rumors or when the lists come out and the awards/reveal show. Any Duchene related stuff can go in the original rumors thread. So let's see how this goes.

Dates to keep in mind:

Fingers crossed on Beauchemin waving by 5pm tomorrow. My hopes aren't high though.

I'm sure he won't. Hope Sakic will have a balls to make a buyout.

this. Even if he waives, he would be back next year.

Fully accepting that we'll know Beauchemin won't waive and won't be bought out today.

Not expecting him to waive or be bought out. Not really an issue since there isn't really anyone worth protecting in his slot.

Will be interesting to see if releasing the lists to the public will have an affect on certain players. Like a guy like Killorn who signed a 7 year deal might not get protected. Would be weird to have to go into the team everyday knowing you're not valued as much.

There absolutely is. If this team goes 4+4, only one of Nieto/Andrighetto/Comeau can be protected. As much as I hate Comeau, he still provides more value than Beauchemin. One of Nieto/Andrighetto provides much more value.

If the old fart is going to be stubborn and refuse to waive, buy him out.

Not to sure why he wouldn't waive, does he think Vegas would pick him?

I can't see beauchamin waiving or even being asked. With only him and Barb's being signed (of the likely expansion fodder eligible) sakic seems poised to go 4 and 4 with Duchene Lando Mack andrighetto/soda beauch, ej, Barrie, zads.

Now that I think about it MAF in Vegas would make sense. He doesn't need to win another cup and could be a kind of veteran star over there. He's got a great personality for the media too, which would be good for the Knights' PR.

On a side note, Lavoie seems to be the only insider who's having legit breaking news these days. Others are mostly speculating.

Aside from my location, was it that obvious?

Really though, I'd say the same for Edmonton. They just don't compare to most American cities unless we're talking Toronto and maybe Montreal/Vancouver. And especially when being compared to Vegas.

From another (unbiaised) Canadian who has visited both cities, I'd say Edmonton is relatively worse than Calgary

I also happened to have visited Vegas and yeah, you're right.

Most indications are MAF is going to Vegas. It is pretty unlikely that he ends up in Calgary, who will likely have Smith as their starter.

I agree. If not Vegas, I wonder where he would actually approve a deal to. Just this morning Friedman was saying he'll be Vegas' pick but he's not convinced he's staying there.

Fleury has a 12 team NTC... he can just pick 12 teams with established starters.

A lot of Clarkson speculation lately. I thought that was over and done with because they can just put him on LTIR but apparently the offseason complicates things for them. I've seen some talk of ownership also wanting him gone but I don't know how true that is.

Friedman seems to think the BJ's are going to trade a 1st round pick and maybe a prospect to Vegas to get them to take Clarkson.

The LTIR thing is a bit complicated. From what I understand Clarkson has full cap hit during the summer, the cap relief comes after the 1st game of the season.

Yeah. I believe you can only go 10% over in the offseason and it's going to be tight for them.

IMO it makes sense for CBJ to trade Clarkson + 1st+ Milano to Vegas with the stipulation that they will also not pick JJ or Jenner or Calvert from the players CBJs can't protect....

Vegas probably does not care much about the caphit and I am not sure they can get more for 1 year of Jack Johnson or whoever they might get if they refuse that deal and just take their pick straight away...

What's wrong with Calgary (the city, not the team)? I always enjoyed my many work trips there.
