Kruikov agrees to contract

http://www.sabrefans.com/articles.asp?id=857&ref=24

We have been told that the Buffalo Sabres and Artem Kriukov have agreed to terms on a contract. At this time we can not confirm the information but we do know for a fact the Sabres have been pushing fairly hard to get a deal done with Kriukov since preseason. Before the two sides can sign an official contract Kriukov's Russian team Yaroslav must release him from his contract, Yaroslav will receive an unknown amount of monetary compensation for doing so. Kriukov was the Sabres first round pick in 2000, at the time considered a risky gamble when the Sabres selected him at 15th overall. Kriukov suffered a major concussion that scared many teams away and dropped him from a potential top 5 selection. Kriukov has struggled with injuries since the Sabres drafted him, he also struggled to make the Yaroslav roster. The Russian league is a talented and veteran ladden league, it's very difficult for an 18 year old kid to crack any team's line up. Kriukov made his first appearance in North America this summer for training camp, the Sabres' coaching staff and management were impressed. Kriukov has been practicing with the Amerks since the end of preseason, he is not allowed to play without a contract.

wnsa reported today that the sabres were still trying to sign kriukov
they had a sound-byte of darcy saying that they were still waiting for yaroslavl to release artem's contract, and that once that happened, he was confident they could strike a deal quickly

sorry peoples, gonna have to keep waiting
my bet is yaroslavl takes their sweet time

This doesn't necessarily mean that the rumor given on sabrefans wasnt true though. What Darcy said could be a conservative way of saying "we are hammering out a final contract". He seems to me a very conservative guy when it comes to how he mentions progress.

That's consistent with the initial post.
