Of the three top coaching candidates, who do you choose?

I'd love to see how we line up with a vote.

To me, Tocchet appears to be the frontrunner and best candidate on-paper, but I'd prefer Housley if given my choice.

Who and why him over the other two?

No wildcard or "other" option; please choose your favorite of the three

Edit: if poss., can we just add a poll to Zip's thread?

Tocchet/Housely
Reirden

At this point I don't really have a preference between Tocchet or Housley.

Rierden. The D improvements since he arrived in Washington are impressive. Alzner credits him directly. Runs a great PP. Ran training camp for Trotz. Detail and structure are his main things. Seems the most ready for the job.

Housley is a big name hire. Not sure he deserves it yet, but seems qualified to handle it. I worry that he is too much of a players coach though.

No one knows Tochett better than Botts, so that is my only positive. If he is the guy I will trust Botts.

Housley, but it's a weak preference and far more important than my outsiders view of resumes is what they have to say about our roster, personnel usage, style, and system in their interviews.

Read this article on Reirden's impact with the Caps.

Quote:
Reirden is meticulous in his preparation and forthright in his instruction. He creates ever-changing plans for each of his players, and he prides himself on both developing younger players and refining the skills of older ones. “I think the thing that guys in Pittsburgh respected the most about him was that he was completely fair to every individual,” Orpik says. “He lets you know exactly where you stand and he’s really, really helpful in trying to help you with the things you need to get better. He gives every guy just as much attention and time.”

Tocchet is the best fit given what came out during the end of year firing process.
Housley may have the higher upside though

There's no chance Housley leaves his gig for an AHL HC job right?

All 3 seem to have good relationships with players. That's part of an assistant coaches job, play good cop.

Housley is more of the unknown, some love the unknown. He would be the most exciting hire, that's for sure.

Not voting since I don't have enough info. It really comes down to the interviews. You either trust Botts or you don't.

No reason not to trust him at this point.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not gonna say I like the GM choice and then second guess him on his first and most major choice he makes. If you don't like the coach, you don't like the GM.

It's a whole other story if Pegula is calling the shots with the coaching hire. But I'm going to assume (going forward) that it's not happening that way.

Assuming no lateral moves, is AHL HC a step above NHL AC? Interesting to see what the consensus is here.

From the BN breakdown, I like Housley. What I like was that after playing he went and coached highschool, then world juniors, then world championships, then NHL assistant - I like the path of getting experience at lower levels and working up.

Tocchet went straight to NHL asst. right after playing, has been up to head coach and back down to asst, has been out of coaching for a couple periods. I just like the path housley took to where he is now better.

Reirden when AHL asst, AHL head coach, NHL asst (with 2 teams) and on paper might be a better coaching development path than housley, but I just don't like how close his ties were to bylsma for the majority of his coaching experience. do not want. don't care if it's not fair or rational.

I love what Housley has done with the defense in Nashville. He would be what I'm learning on but none of these guys seem like they would be a bad bire

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Organizationally and schematically our PP was pretty terrible this year, but they still put up points. That's bound to happen regardless of who runs it when the first unit is stacked like it was.

If I were a betting man, I'd put my (or maybe his) money on Tocchet.

I think Housley is the coach, yes JB has ties to Tocchet but I still feel it will be Housley. But Tocchet wouldn't be a bad hire either

Kruger is the only guy I feel any type of way about, and he's not on this list.

I guess not Reirden, because Washington's playoff coaching has been trash.
