No team at all?

I could swear there was a meh-goalie/2ndrounder trade in the NHL in recent seasons. Can't quite place it right now.......

Haha Eklund saying the Pens are gaining in the race for Matt Duchene... with prospects and the rights to Trevor Daley.

I don't really see a fit but they do keep coming up. I have no idea what they can really offer. What prospects?

Probably something around Maatta+wingprospect (Sprong?) + 1st. Which would really suck cause I think he would get horribly exposed with us but this wouldn't be the first time the Avs would overrate cup winning or playoff experience...

I also don't quite understand how on earth you can "gain ground" in a situation like this.

Yeah we have better offers on the table but your offer is catching up. You only need to add 3 3 rds and 6 5ths and you will be close to the leader...

Exactly. There is nothing I'd want back that would work with the Pens.

A shame Minny is in the division and also pure evil. A Duchene for Brodin based deal would be quite nice.

Why would sakic want rights to a 33 year old defenseman. Must be because beauch worked out so well

If it's Pens' best D prospect, 2 first rounders, Hagelin, and Daley then sure

It's like they are trying to find the teams who are the absolute worst trade partners for the Avs and elevating them to the top of the heap. Because...really, who cares if it makes sense for the Avs.

At least I think this clearly shows there is a hot market for 40-point, over-the-hill Matt Duchene. We just have to place our faith in Sakic that he's going to receive back in a deal a package worthy of that interest.

For everyone who hates the idea of a CDH or Hamonic-centered deal - how you like a Maatta-centered deal? Talk about terrible. The Isles defenders look like pure gold to what the Pens are likely to offer on that front.

Who is even their best D-prospect? Surely not the busting Derrick Pouliot? Hagelin has little value at his price. Daley is a free agent to be and old. They better stack about 4 first rounders onto the deal if they want a chance. They have ZERO I would think the Avs would crave back in a Duchene deal (that is likely to be available).

Penguins have zero to offer. Literally. Even their 1st is dead last. Rutherford probably thinks that he can pull a Phil Kessel part II with us.

They probably want to build up all the hype for the Vegas team they can. Sending a message that June 21 will be huge for them, will captivate the audience... makes sense to me.

It makes sense to me too, from that perspective (and I had already considered that as well)...but I think that June 21, regardless of whether or not trades were announced, is still going to be a huge day for Vegas.

[EDIT]

Oh, plus there's the notion that teams may not know the details of all these "secret deals" with Vegas that other teams have made...it could be having an impact on trade negotiations league-wide because the NHL wants to keep it all for June 21. Just seems kind of counter-intuitive when Vegas is still going to have a big spotlight on them given the Awards and Expansion Draft results being on the same day.

I wonder if this league is actually capable of keeping all these trades under wraps for a week

I just had a thought, I really hope the Islanders go out and get Eberle at/ before the draft.

Devils add Patrick, Flyers add Hischier, Islanders add Eberle, Caps re-sign Oshie, Carolina gets desperate for a forward.

No idea why Pittsburgh would want Duchene... they need to build up their D if anything.

I.... don't think you'd want that package. I'm a Pens fan. Avs are my 2nd team. Pouliot + Hagelin + two 1sts + Daley for Duchene is a MASSIVE steal for Pittsburgh. Hagelin/Pouliot/Daley's rights have very little value. Hagelin is a nice piece, but he makes $4M for two more years I believe.

I think a package from the Penguins would look like Maatta + Sprong + 1st. Even then, I think the Avs do better elsewhere.

Doubt they would be interested in that at all. I'd love it though.

Pretty sure that they would counter with Jankowski + 1st for MacKinnon.....

Probably as realistic to happen tbh...

So what, are they just going to rattle off all the trades on the 21st.

It seems weird that they would publish the protection lists but keep every trade under wraps.

That's probably exactly what they want to do. For once I'm actually going to watch the NHL awards.
