They had no choice. Can't bring him back after last year. Would send the wrong signal to the team.

Avs will probably add another D to that group this summer through trade though.
Mironov will be on the right side of the third pairing. He prefers the right and lacks the skill to play in the top 4. Though his game and Barrie's would mesh well in theory.

What does our protection list look like now I wonder?

I would venture to guess it'll be:

Landeskog
Mackinnon
Duchene
Andrighetto
Nietto
Comeau
Grigorenko

EJ
Barrie
Zads

Varlamov

Leaves Vegas with Barbeiro, Colborne, Pickard, Soderberg, and Grimaldi as possible targets. I would say almost definitely the pick would be Barbeiro or Pickard at that point.

I guess we have:

EJ - Zadorov
Barrie - Mirovov
Bigras - Butcher

Yikes.
I would think so considering that depth chart, but you'd also think he'd definitely waive. Almost zero chance Vegas takes him, and a slim chance of playing for Vegas is still much better than not playing at all.

Regardless, it'll be interesting to see how this offseason unfolds for us. It opened up a roster spot I was confident was filled. I hope Sakic has learned from his mistakes and doesn't plan to fill that hole in UFA.

I wish the Avs would still do 4-4

Duchene, Landey, Mack, Andrighetto
Z, EJ, Barrie, Barberio
Varly

I cant believe our protection list likely includes names like Grigorenko, Comeau and two waiver claims from last year.

I still think they'll go 4-4-1.

1. Mack
2. Lando
3. Duchene OR player they got for him
4. EJ
5. Barrie
6. Zadorov
7. Andrighetto
8. Barberio*
G. Varly

They'll have to sign Goloubef to a 1 year - 2 way contract for next year to expose him or acquire a player that meets that qualification in a trade.

Trades could change this significantly but as things stand right now, I'm expecting this to be the list.

I think the Avs are fine with having Grigorenko, Soderberg, Comeau & Colborne as part of the guys who are under contract but not protected and they'd be fine if Vegas took any of those guys off their hands. For Pickard, I think he might be traded by Saturday (possibly with Duchene).

It's seriously time to trade Pickard before we loose him for nothing

I'd rather protect Henley than Grigorenko. Greg's done with this organization and needs to spend a few years playing a top 6 role for a powerhouse. If he can regain his mojo and develop for a couple of years then maybe he can make it back to the NHL; but that won't be in Colorado.

Being bought out was the best thing for Beauch. Now he can sign with any team, most likely a team better than either us or Vegas. And he gets 2 pay checks.

For exposing dater as the hack that he is, YET AGAIN?? A little...

The guy is either GUESSING (and mostly guessing WRONG) or he's doing it on purpose and click-baiting people...something he calls other people out for doing on a regular basis.

He frikkin' sucks.

After last year, I think he'll be lucky to be on a PTO in the fall.

Talk about a waste of a protection slot. No way Henley is picked. I have a better chance at being their choice.

Someone will give him a chance I'm sure. He probably isn't as bad as he showed last year either.

I'm just teasing you man. I do think Dater has a source, but I think Dater throws out everything he hears and runs with it. The difference with me is I actually want to hear everything he hears. It's interesting to me and I don't assume anything is happening until it happens.

Pleasantly surprised.

I wonder if Colborne or Soderberg are next, especially if they took this much initiative.
