Thank GAWD! He was not going to fit in with next year's team. Onward and upward.

Seems like Greg's only hope of being a mainstay on an NHL roster was Roy. He'll be KHL bound, unless someone wants to give him a PTO.

Really happy !

I just came out of a thread saying the Avs were going after Eberle so I really needed something positive to change my mood.

Yup...a few of us called this as a 'MUST HAPPEN'.

When he slammed his stick and called the rest of the team out at practice while being the worst d-man on the team by a mile...that sealed his fate.

Sakic is 2 for 2 so far

Or they knew from talking to McPhee there was zero chance Vegas would claim him, so asking him to waive would be pointless.

I don't really care about the expansion draft. We're not in danger of losing anyone real good. It's more about getting rid of the player.

Now just don't go sign another bad player.

If we asked him to waive and he did then he would still be on the team. They just wanted of the team.

Sakic's vet respect only extends to the trade deadline where he never sells them off because he doesn't like making them have to move cities 3/4 of the way through the season.

A noble sentiment, but not one that helps out a struggling, re-building on the business side.

This was basically the lowest bar Sakic needed to clear this offseason and he did so. Gives me at least some reason to be optimistic and that there's force behind this young and fast mantra.

On Sakic's defense most of us were pretty happy with the Beauch signing at the time. We all knew the third year would be a problem but it happened one year early. But I agree Sakic needs to stay away from FA and if he signs somebody it needs to be with short term. Two years max, one year preferable.

I mean, Beauch has sucked out loud for the past year and a half. Nobody should deny that. But the day he was signed, he was 1) one of only a few guys available in free agency who had played last season on the top pairing 2) the best free-agent defenseman signing the team had made since Hannan, 3) probably the best LD that Johnson would play with to that point in Colorado. Signing him wasn't a mistake for a team that badly needed (and still does) an upgraded defense.

So can everyone now chill out about the offseason and Sakic for a bit. Sakic isn't as dumb or crappy as you all want him to be or make him out to be. And this move furthers that point. It also more proof that BSN/Dater don't really have high end sources as we all clearly saw that they said we weren't going to do anything regarding Beauchemin.

Sakic did exactly what needed to be done, hell IMO he did better than expected I figured at best we'd get him to waive his NMC, then have him not get selected and he be on the blueline next year. But now that he is bought out, he is a goner, which is even better moving forward as that opens a spot for someone else who is younger.

I feel bad for Beauchemin, but at the same time there is absolutely no place for a soon to be 38 year old on the last place team in the league. We have to go youth, and he doesn't fit that at all. I really hope a playoff team picks him up for one more year and he can be used properly on the 3rd pairing for that team.

Now that we don't have to protect him I fully expect a 7-3-1 list. With...

MacK
Landy
Duchene
Ghetto
Nieto
Grigorenko
Soderberg (yes I think he gets protected, he is better than what he showed last season)

EJ
Barrie
Zadorov

Varly

Leaving Vegas Comeau, Colborne, Barberio, Wiercioch, Pickard as the best options. I fully expect either Comeau or Colborne to Vegas. I don't think Barberio goes as there will be significantly better defense options than him around the league.

I don't expect any high end trades from our end before the draft. Maybe Pickard moving for a pick or prospect or combo of that. Duchene/Barrie/Landy are all potential movers at the draft. Teams are too concerned about the expansion draft and protection lists right now. I bet most teams are saying we'll protect our guys, you protect your guys and we'll talk later.

Fantastic. Glad they told us and we don't have to worry about this any longer. Glad they can protect more forwards, just don't use the protection slots on Comeau, Soderberg and Colborne.

A few of those guys aren't really worthy of being protected - Nieto, Grigorenko, etc.

Is it possible that Beauchemin was jettisoned so they can trade Duchene for 2 assets who are worthy of being protected?

Yeah, it'd be smart to take advantage of the exp draft in a way if possible.

Or even one defenseman, sure that could still happen

If you can find another eligible defenseman to sign, I'd be happy protecting

Dutchy
MacK
Landy
Sven/Grigs/Nieto

EJ
Barrie
Zads
Barberio

You maybe lose one of Sven/Grigs/Nieto which I think is fine, or you get lucky and Vegas takes a Comeau or Colborne.

Do we have to protect the full amount?

MacK
Landy
Duchene
Ghetto

EJ
Barrie
Zadorov
