Lol the joy that filled my body waking up this morning to read that Beauchemin was bought out. Incredible day. He's so bad now. I feel bad for the fanbase of whichever team he signs with (my gut says Montreal).

I hope they re-sign Goloubef to the minimum just so they can stay at 4+4 and protect Barbeiro and not give two of Grigorenko/Soderberg/Comeau/Colborne the satisfaction of being protected.

There's still some work to do to get the bums off this team.

Do you really want to give Bednar the chance to play his BFF?

Doing my happy dance, but also worried that the Avs will somehow find a replacement who sets the bar even lower. Every time there is a Blueline Pariah the Avs find a way of making me regret my words. First it was Matt Hunwick, then it was Nate Guenin, and now it's Francois Beauchemin. At the rate they're going a stitched-up corpse will be on the top pairing to start a season.

We are totally signing Dan Girardi as his replacement.

How are we going to be successful now that we lost all the experience we had? Iginla, now Beauch. Disaster year coming.

I hope our management learned something from this, don't make long-term contracts with old players like Iggy and Beauch. Max. 1-2 years.

It's a good start, though!

And we'll even throw-in our own patented "Aging Veteran Special" contract that contains a bonus 3rd year.

Heck, If we need experience maybe Sakic could step in and play one more year. He would do better than Beauch, Girardi and Iginla.

Avs do need a veteran to put an A on, so they won't have to give EJ a letter.

FWIW, Beauchemin was on an Age 35+ contract. So his buyout is:

2017-18: $4.5m cap ($1.5m in buyout payments)
2018-19: $0 cap ($1.5m in buyout payments)

When players on Age 35+ contracts are bought out the Age 35+ cap calculation takes precedence over the standard buyout cap calculation.

Along with Kulikov.

And then after we suck again, our Pro scouts and management will be all "We just don't understand it! Back in 2010-2011, these guys were really good! What happened?"

Two buyouts in a row. Maybe they've learned their lesson.

I think you are correct in saying Barberio has to be exposed. Still zero scenarios in which we have to or ever should protect Comeau.

Or maybe the guy responsible is gone. I'd bet Sakic could not care less how the Kings defence is built.

God, this respect for vets just sickens me, I knew Sakic wouldn't have the guts to dump Beauchemin!

Oh, wait, he actually did it? Sorry, I had that all typed out and ready to throw into the outrage machine.

Of course he had to buy him out.
Too incompetent to trade him somewhere.
Beauch had to be worth at least a 4th rounder.
Sakic was just too lazy and passive to get it done.

Better?

Incidentally, is there a buyout window after the expansion draft or do these decisions need to be made beforehand?

Reason I ask is that I find it curious that Beauchemin's agent and Lacroix buddy Bob Sauve said the Avs never asked his client to waive his NMC. I realize there was almost ZERO chance the Boogie Knights would take him but why not at least try?

Of course if that meant the Avs were stuck with him if Vegas passed then never mind.

You know a lot of people believe (incorrectly) that Stuart was a Roy move...yet he was bought out last year with no problem, and that was announced well before Roy resigned.

So, it's almost like it's Joe Sakic, the man who said at the introductory news conference that "he and he alone has final say on the roster", is the one who has to make the ultimate call on who to sign, who to trade for, who to waive, and who to buyout...

Basically, it doesn't ultimately matter who suggested what--the buck stops with the GM, in this case Joe.

Are you sure they're not the "Vet Respect Avalanche"?
