I think what irks me the most about it is Pittsburgh. If we had been playing the Sens and the circumstances were the same it wouldn't have that general feeling of 'oh, of course, here comes the league to help out wonder kid and friends.'

Don't get me wrong... it would still suck.

First home game for 2017-18 is October 10, 2017, and that will be when we raise the WCC banner, 19 years to the day after our first game.

Poile has most definitely flipped the skill up front switch. Ejdsell, Fiala, Aberg, and now just about every kid in this draft is high skill up front.

It is a total philosophy change.

Indeed and this run we just had, had to solidify the justification of doing just that.

Supposedly his skating leaves a lot to be desired. Probably takes a while to figure out how to skate with that new frame.

I think the next year is big for him. He is most likely playing for HV71 in Sweden this season, which would be his first year in a top tier league. Winning MVP in Allsvenskan is nice, but plenty of guys torched the AHL and never could crack the NHL...if he can do it at a higher level, I'll start to get more excited.

I think coming over sooner is better.

Waiting until you're 23 years old and making the jump to AHL doesn't seem like a better plan.

As I understand it his deal in Sweden doesn't have an out for the AHL, just NHL -- similar to when we first brought Mattias Ekholm over. We tried him at the NHL level, he was bad, so he went back to Sweden for a year.

I was at both. Iirc we failed to score in the first game and then Brunette's "goal" was one where the net had come off but the puck would have gone in so it counted... vaguely ironic given a couple of the odd playoff goal issues this year. Anyway I hadn't realized the timing of the 19 years-- man sports is a funny thing to spend so much time and effort and heartache and money for a lot of thrills over the years but to get a banner and to see the run this year and our first SCF appearance is still just beyond anything I ever imagined when I got on this ride 19 years ago.

One year ago today the Weber/Subban trade went down. What a day. A ton of stories out there on social media today about it- some good articles if anyone is interested.

For me that is one of those "I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing" moments. When I heard the news, I didn't think it was real- I almost fell out of my chair- being in Birmingham people at my work had no idea why I was freaking out so much.

Pretty fascinating to look back now at how it all worked out from a Preds perspective.

I actually don't remember that well, I think I was at Holiday World and forgot to take my phone that day so I didn't find out until 9-10pm or so. What a difference a year makes though, IIRC the response was split at least 50/50 or maybe even leaning slightly towards more posters being against the trade. Many would have undone the trade that day if they could press a magic button.

Today you'd be hard pressed to find a Preds fan who would undo the trade, while it seems there's a good amount of Montreal fans who would have undone it last year and would still undo it today.

I remember leaving work, starting the car and hearing the first words out of Brent Dougherty's (104.5 3HL) mouth being, "Who will be the new Captain?" I was totally in the dark so I grabbed the phone and checked twitter ... and sat there stunned reading tweets for about 20 minutes before driving off.

To be frank, the analytics and wider hockey community was 100% right on that trade.

The Nashville Predators made that trade and went to the SCF, outplayed the Penguins in 5 of 6 games, and basically had half their offense missing or injured (broken hand, groin strain, etc).

I remember sitting at work, happened to be on my phone and out of nowhere my friend down in Alabama texted me "So, Weber for Subban? haha" I was like uhh what? Within about 5 minutes I probably got 10 to 15 texts about it and the sh**show began.

Speaking of new captain - if Fish is gone, who would you like to see get it?

In my mind, it can only be Ellis or Josi. I'd like to see Ellis get the C and Josi, Ekholm, and Subban with A's. Rotating home/away as necessary.

I was at work when the news broke. Thought it was fake. Then three blue checkmarks tweeted it. Thought the entire hockey world got hacked. It took me about 15 minutes to believe it.

No more work was done that day.

I was sitting on a beach and remember thinking it was the best and worst possible news break wrapped into one Preds story.
