Best news, I'm so happy I don't have to be pessimistic about Tocchet anymore. I never wanted him and was trying to hide my views. Housley was always #1 for me.

Great Job Botts!!!

How do people feel about some Preds fans saying he can't make the needed in-game adjustments?

I think they needed better finishers at forward on their PP.

That's my entire thought on it.

What an off season so far. I wanted Botterill back in 2014 over Murray and we finally got our guy. And now we got the best coaching candidate out there IMO. My excitement with Housley and Botterill is literally 10x higher then Murray and Bylsma. Can't wait for JB to put his stamp on the roster and make some trades and signings.

This team may be competitive a lot more quickly then they would have if they kept Murray.

I choose to believe players like Ellis and Ekholm who said the exact opposite, that he excels at getting the right guys on the ice at the right time.

Unless the adjustment was somehow getting better finishers, seems like a weird complaint.

The only way to truly become a destination where players want to play at is to win, something we haven't done in such a long time.

He better keep Bob Woods as an assistant coach, throwing away a #1 PP coach is bad.

The pp isn't #1 because of Bob Woods.

If they throw away Eichel and RoR wake me up so I can be angry.

Phil's wife is a Dead fan, so I'm on board with the hire.

4-1 is straight up a better PP setup than 3-2 but Nashville was forced into the inferior option because of how their team is set up. Shouldn't be an issue with the Sabres anytime soon.

We don't even have a defenseman I respect being the 1 on the second PP unit.

Antipin can fill that role. He's obviously wait and see, but he skates the PP on the right side in the KHL, no reason he couldn't fill Risto's shoes on the second unit for us.

So all coaches are only what they are because of their players? why have coaches then?

You really don't think talent is most of what makes a PP effective?

PP was more successful because of the talent than because of the coaching. The only positive that Woods brought was knowing to give the guys the greenlight to be creative on their own in the offensive zone.

It's been said by a few posters and myself on here, Sabres relied heavily on winning the faceoff on the PP and then transitioning to puck possession and had the puck go through 3 guys (Eichel, ROR, Risto). If the Sabres had lost the puck or faceoff, they had consistent trouble entering the zone and transitioning into a set piece, something that shouldn't be the case with one of the best zone entry players in the league in Eichel.

Thing is, he's more comfortable on the right wall, in the ROR spot. We'll see how the 2nd unit shakes out.

No but I think coaches have a lot more to do with successful PP's than just the players. See below.

If he didn't have that talent to use then a good coach would find other ways to distribute the puck on a PP and make it work. This is what a coach does, he adjust's to what he has.
