What would you give up for Brodin?

Brodin is a perfect fit in Buffalo. There's lots of Brodin talk right now according to McKenzie, so this could be a perfect opportunity to get a defender who is:

- 23 years old, fitting in with the age of the core
- Signed to a very reasonable contract
- Can play top pair with Risto
- LHD

What would you give up for him?

8 OA?
Nylander?

I think it would take one of those pieces plus something else.

Either way, this is a big opportunity and the Sabres have to be in on Brodin.

I would do either 8OA or Nylander, yes.

Was going to suggest the same.

8OA will be a player Buffalo can only hope will be as good as Brodin, as I expect Heiskanen and Makar will be gone, and Brodin is just getting to his prime and under a good contract.

I'm not very high on Nylander, and if Chychrun or McAvoy were taken last year instead, the Brodin talk probably wouldn't apply to Buffalo at all.

Either plus so long as it wasn't anything huge.

I'd consider Reinhart if there was something else of interest coming to buffalo.

Trading an elite piece for multiple non-elite ones is NEVER a good trade unless you're getting like half a franchise.

8 or Nylander

Would have preferred to do it for Fowler but that ship has sailed. Nylander for Brodin and a 3rd then sergachev and a 2nd for drouin would have been a fun day.

8 + Kane (partially retained) for Brodin + Pommer

Might be overkill but I'd probably do it.

I guess I am biased but the 8th pick is not going to help the wild unless it somehow landed Mittlestadt. Nylander is a great prospect, but I think the only thing I'd accept is Reinhart, but that's not going to happen from you guys.

I concur on 8 or Nylander (though I'd much rather trade 8).

I'd give them our first and their 2nd back.

Why are we ripping ourselves off? They are trying to move him because they are afraid to lose him in expansion, teams have them by the balls. We just have to squeeze harder.

That leverage only matters until another team is willing to pay more than us, at which point you either have to beat that offer or walk away.

What team is going to offer a top 10 first and a second to them? In my eyes Minnesota is walking away with their heads high on that offer.

Not interested in giving up Nylander yet. As to 8OA it would depend on what Sabres think would be there at 8. If Glass or Makar probably not.

I'm not saying a team will offer this or that. I'm just saying the fact Minnesota "has" to move him provides leverage that only extends as far as we're outbidding every other team. Other interested parties are as important to the negotiations as the team you're trying to trade with.

I agree that our pick + a 2nd is a solid offer. But it's not necessarily a "take it or lose Brodin for nothing" situation. If it were, you wouldn't have to offer the 8th overall.

I wonder if Nylander and Asplund would get us close.

Same with me, I'm fine with giving up 8 if Makar and Glass are off the board

I think an offer of our second this year and next while low as suggested above might be sweetened with one of Borgen, Pu or Asplund. Brodin is a decent second pairing D =and proven-but is only that.

Not giving up asplund as the plus. They can have their own 2nd back.

They want a center. If we're not moving Reinhart, then you're looking at 5 years before ROR moves on. If you're going with ROR-Eichel-Reinhart down the middle, Asplund is just the kind of piece you can afford to let go if another team values him enough.

I doubt Nylander + Min 2nd gets us close, tbh, so I'm thinking about what they might value.

No you keep the cost controlled larsson/girgs replacement for 4c duties on an ELC, ship salary out and build a solid cap structure once eichel and Reinhart get raises. If our 1st and an add of a winger prospect not named nylander or getting their own 2nd back isn't enough...then you aren't the highest bidder and you bid again on someone else.

Frankly our 1st with any reasonable plus should be enough for a guy they either lose for free or protect causing them to lose amother forward more valuable than asplund anyways making the point moot.

#8+Bailey+Borgen

Wild get a high pick to add a young high end prospect on an ELC, a potential 15-20 goal top 9 winger in Bailey and a hometown D prospect who truthfully is more of a throw in and doesn't hold much trade value on his own.

We'd be ripping ourselves off if we offered that. I know Nylander's AHL stats were underwhelming, but look how he did in the WJCs when he was playing against his peers..and with another year of tournament eligibility left. The kid has a ridiculous amount of talent, we just need to develop him.
