Staal brothers

Ok so up here in canada, everyone hypes these brothers alot, saying the younger the brother the better they are going to be. I know Jordan Staal is eligible for this year's draft... how soon do you think he will be picked... what draft picks do we have in the first round this year and what are our chances of getting Jordan....

thanx

I think he'll go in the top 5. I don't see him slipping past the 7th pick. We only have one first round selection and it looks like its going to be in the 20-27 pick range. We would have to trade up to get him. What will it take? I have no idea. Some people think we should trade Montoya away to get the pick. I am not a fan of this move. I think we could get more for Montoya a little more down the road when he gains some NHL experience and continues to excel. Maybe a package of some other prospects could get the job done. But do the Rangers want to give away 2 or 3 good prospects? I don't know. The only thing I do know is that we need a future #1 center. How we will get it? Your guess is as good as mine.

I would add though that getting him would be awesome (Jordan) and trying to get the younger brother in next years draft (I have no idea what he plays or even if hes eligable for next years draft). Then when the oldest brother Erik becomes a UFA he'd maybe want to play with all his brothers like back in the day. I highly doubt that would ever happen, getting all 4 of them, but hey, you never know. Stranger things have happened.

I'm sure they would be good picks but not too many of the younger brothers ever live up to the hype. Brent Gretzky, Brett Lindros, Fedor Fedorov, the list goes on and on.

the youngest brother Jared is 15 and supposed to be the best of them all. We have the only defensemen of the brothers, all the others are forwards. I know how the younger siblings have not always lived up to the hype, but apparently all these kids are for real....

It's Jordan who their father said he believes to be the best of them all. Jared is the youngest one and he's available in the OHL Draft this year, and he's not rated very highly. It's likely he won't even go in the first round. According to some knowledgeable people I know, Jared is no where near his 3 older brothers in terms of talent.

slightly OT, are there any younger brothers who've turned out better than the older ones? Derian over Kevin comes to mind but I forget if they were cousins. Tuomo Ruutu is supposedly better than his older brother i think? There are a lot of Ruutus out there so I might be getting the names confused. Scott over Rob Neidermeyer?

They're not related.

And neither are Sami and Niko Kapanen, for hat matter.

The Hatcher's are brothers and I have heard that Jared isn't even the best player on his AAA team.

I think Henrik Sedin came out 20 seconds before his brother Daniel.

how can you compare a 15 year old to a WJC Allstar Defenceman, a Hart trophy candidate, and a consensus top pick of this years draft and say that the 15 year old will be better than all of them????

Looks like he's going top five. I'm hoping he drops to 20 or so

mckeen's has jordan staal ranked #2 behind erik johnson...he'll be a top 5 pick

as for the theory of the younger brothers being better, its all speculation and you have to see how they develop but a big reason for that theory is that the younger brothers grew up playing with their older brothers...eric is 6 years older than jared, so when jared was 4 years old he was playing hockey with his 10 year old brother who was a future nhl superstar...thats a HUGE advantage over a 4 year old playing against other 4-5 year olds.

none of those siblings named before were ever hyped to be as good or better than the older ones - unlike staal bros

Alain Lemieux's kid brother Mario turned out pretty good, and Rocket Richard's brother Henri has more cup rings than any player in history. Lots of great players have older brothers who played, it's just that in most cases you've never heard of the older one.

It's called unfair pressure and the fans and media in this country do it to some young kid every day.

apparently the story that the youngest is the best was a huge mistake. a reporter from the toronto sun did a story on them, and thought there were only 3 brothers. so when he said the youngest is the best, he meant Jordan. The story got widely circulated and no one corrected it. The dad has always been upset about the pressure this puts on Jarred, who is not the best of the 4.

Sylvain and Pierre Turgeon is a pretty good example.

I don't think it's fair to compare the two though. They are different players (meaning Jordan and Eric).
