I was ready for some fresh striping but that's a good point that the mountain striping is only something the Avs do and it's nice they updated it a bit here but still gets the point across.

This jersey has a lot more blue in it, the arm striping is more pronounced, the blue on the bottom, the blue carting forward on the shoulders. It gives the burgundy a much better contrast which was so dark and had no contrast that it looked like pajamas on tv in the reebok jerseys. The apron piping looked like minor/junior hockey and every single other team did something to change it. I hope the next thirds are the same or still modern but I'm glad for this classic look, it is well done but slightly updated.

Between this and the previous third it does seem like someone in the org has taken an interest in the jersey design at least.

I can see how the new design looks more unique and has things like the mountain striping that means something to us, but I still don't see how one jersey is a "travesty" and the other looks good.

You can really tell the people who have an eye for design and ones that don't

So you're not seeing how one has armpit piping that makes it look like an apron?

That same mountain theme is carried over to the arms. Instead of the generic template of straight arms, they have a unique abstract mountain design.

Instead of having piping that goes to nowhere while intersecting the C and A captain patches, this jersey now has proper sleeve striping to separate the blue and red. Blue and red are very close together and can easily bleed into one another. The gray stripe acts as a border so that bleed can not happen.

The old reebok jersey was a template that had no unique features. Any team in the league could have used that jersey. This new jersey is 100% tailored to the Avalanche.

These are all good points - I'd visually never put the mountain thing together until now. Also interesting about the unique jersey design, I hadn't noticed how generic the Reebok jerseys looked from team to team.

I can see how one could interpret the stripes to look like that, yes. But are they an affront to the eye and all things holy and pure? Nope. Don't see it.

I think the part that makes it worse was that it was generic AND they were the only team to do nothing about it for 10 years. Fans begging for something new and willing to throw money at a new jersey and they wouldn't do it. Baffling.

When I was only paying attention to the Avs, did I think the jersey was awful, no. But in knowing better, it really is embarrassing they wore those for so long.

It was understandable given the upheaval with the introduction of the EDGE jersey (new materials, new stitching, etc.) that a lot of teams simply didn't know what to do, especially since a lot of teams were told they couldn't continue to use their designs at the time. But as you said most teams (DAL, STL, PHI, NYI, EDM, etc.) fixed their screw-ups after a time. Not Colorado. Like everything else in their organization, they sure seem very slow to react.

Overall though, even as someone who was hoping for a full-on switch to the "C" logo, these are pretty damn nice.

Yeah, looks pretty good. Woulda been better with a blue stripe too though.

Also, is that little Adidas logo on the bottom of the jersey going to be on all the jerseys? Or just the ones sold to the public?

Definitely should have blue mountain stripes and a blue collar. It looks washed out in that picture.

The mountain stripes at the chest don't seem as high as they have on the pictures of the homes, hopefully that's the case with both when we seem them properly.

Sidenote, I could see teams making subtle changes to their jerseys over the years similar to how it happened last time. AKA the collars. Adidas has some weird collar design.

I hate that the Adidas button is right on top of the grey stripe on the jersey. Both jerseys look great apart from that.

Kind of wish the silver was blue, but it's clean. The home jerseys look better to me personally.

I don't. Blue would be touching burgundy again.

Thank god they didn't use the stadium series whites!

And I agree that the new home looks better than the away.

Wish they would go with blue pants/equipment instead of black.

The blue on these jerseys is way awful as a pant color.
