That 2nd line would be tough to play against in the offensive zone. Drai leading the rush and Looch/Jagr on the boards, I like it but it sounds expensive.

It would be an insane boost if JP is ready for the NHL next season, I hope he's busting his a** this off-season

I feel like Pulju is getting so much pressure to be one of the go to guys next year. I hope I'm wrong, but we as NHL fans have been so oversaturated with exceptional young talent the last few drafts that I think a lot of people forget that these are still kids. I see him on a lot of people's top lines around here and I think it's crazy to expect that. Even if he were to need another full year, I'd be okay with that over seeing social media tear into him and start talking trade when he's not leading any lists after one year of pro hockey.

You see it all the time now. So many 20-21 year old kids with so much potential, and all media just starts tearing then down talking "bust" cause the kids 22 and still growing up.

I don't know if he's ready. I think it would be really surprising if is.

The kid is a stud, and hopefully works on the parts of his game that need it. (Is it pick protection/possession and positional play?)

I dunno, I feel like our PK may hurt us this year.
Pakarinen is really good on the PK, and that trait likely lands him a spot on the 4th line to start the year. And I'm thinking they're gonna groom Khaira into a PK guy throughout the year. I'm thinking there's a chance they'll start giving Drai some time there as well since he'll likely be replacing RNH entirely in a year.

Maroon McDavid Draisatl
Lucic RNH PJ
Caggiula Strome Slepy
Khaira Letestu Kassian
Pakarinen

If the team needs a shake up mid game or depending on opponent
Cagguila McDavid PJ
Lucic Draisatl Slepy
Maroon RNH Strome
4th line remains the same

Klefbom Larsson
Russell Benning
Nurse Fayne/Gryba depending on opponent

I think they will make a depth signing or trade for an experienced #7/8 D before the season starts, and depending on how camp goes perhaps even a 3/4 with 1 year left to replace Sekera until he is 100%.

I don't think Kassian will be given the opportunity to ride shotgun with McDavid, but I think he'd be some good protection for him, and could up being the perfect fit as McDavid is best when there is one guy to dig the puck out for him and one guy to stand in front of the net for him to bank it off of. If he continues working hard like last year, Kassian could be even better and put up 30+ goals if things went well.

Maroon-McDavid-Kassian
Lucic-RNH-Draisaitl
Caggiula-Strome-Puljujarvi
Pakarainen-Letestu-Slepyshev

Klefbom-Larsson
Russell-Benning
Nurse-Gryba

Sekera bumping Benning and Gryba down the lineup when he returns.

Personally, I'd like to see a good veteran grinder (good PK guy) for the 3rd line LW too, bumping Caggiula and Pakarainen down the lineup.

Assuming no other acquisitions, i'd roll with:

Maroon - McDavid - Strome
Lucic - Draisatl - Slepy/Pulju
Caggiula - RNH - Pulju/Slepy
Khaira - Letestu - Kassian
Pakarinen

Klefbom - Larsson
Russell - Benning
Nurse - Fayne/Gryba
Gryba/Fayne

Talbot
Brossoit

Ideally i'd like another vet top 9 RW to push one of Slepy/Pulju down or in the AHL if need be, and a stop gap bottom 4 dman to push Fayne/Gryba down or to the minors.

I wouldnt be against signing Jagr to a cheap one year contract. If he is too slow/not a good fit, send him to the AHL and terminate his contract (he obviously wouldnt report)

RNH-McDavid-Maroon
Lucic-Draisailt-Jagr
Caggiula-Strome-Kassian
Khaira-Letestu-Slepyshev

Honestly, is it bad that I don't even want Pakarinen or Khaira in our lineup?

Honestly if Pulj can play well with McDavid, I'd like to see something like this for forwards

1 ) Jokinen-McDavid-Pulj

I know JJ doesn't have great speed, but can he really be much slower then Maroon? We also don't need 3 fast guys on one line, JJ has played well in the top 6 before, which to me kind of means he's good at finding the right spots and passes. If its McDavid and Pulj leading the rush and JJ getting open as a trailer, I think they could gel nicely. Also he's better defensively so Connor can maybe get a bit more of a jump leaving the D zone.

2) Lucic-Drai-Strome

A bit more spread out offence compared to last year with Drai centering his own line. This line would be a solid mix of a passer/scoring threat in Drai with two guys good around the net in Lucic and Strome, Strome's shot would also be utilized by Drai's passing pretty well and they would be solid on the cycle and forecheck.

3) Cagguila-RNH-Slep

Probably the most questionable line of the 4. RNH is trying to find his offensive game again while playing with two unexperienced guys. Production wise though and potential I think this line could be one of the better 3rd lines in the league in terms of scoring if Slepy and Cagg take another step forward.

4) Maroon-Letetsu-Kass

Solid energy line, will be used on the pk but also will have a line that still has potential to score night in and night out.

Honestly I see the lines being:

Center: MCDavid > Draitsaitl > RNH > Letestu

or

Center: McDavid > RNH > Strome > Letestu

depending on whether or not they use Drai as RW1 or C2

I think the wingers will be moved all over the place until they stick or depending on whos playing well and whos not.

If I had to guess, I think it will be:

Maroon - McDavid - Drai
Lucic - RNH - Pulju/Slep
Jokinen - Strome - Pulju/Slep
Cagg - Letestu - Kassian
Ex: Khaira, Pak

or

Maroon - McDavid - Strome/Pulju/Slep
Lucic - Drai - Strome/Pulju/Slep
Jokinen - RNH - Strome/Pulju/Slep
Cagguila - Letestu - Kassian (could see Cagg switching spots with Slep in above)
Ex: Khaira/Pak

I expect if JP doesnt make it, it will give Khaira or Pak a spot.

I expect that Lucic will be given another shot with McDavid to see if sticks this time.

Not going to do defensive pairs as I expect they will sign one more D man this offseason.

Revised with Jokinen signing, which in the end gives TMac the ability to really throw his lines into a blender with the added flexibility.

Maroon McDavid Draisatl
Lucic RNH Cagguila
Jokinen Strome PJ
Khaira/Pak Letestu Kassian
Slepy odd man out

If the team needs a shake up mid game or depending on opponent there's a million combos coaches can turn to to see what works.

Klefbom Larsson
Russell Benning
Nurse Fayne/Gryba depending on opponent

Still need a depth D and perhaps a D to replace Sekera till he's back

Is it time to try Nuge as a RW? Looking at Granlund in Minny, it could be worth exploring that option with so many C's in the lineup. It's just too bad he'd slot on LW naturally and not RW.

Perhaps on a line like JJ-RNH-Pulju/Slepy the C and LW positions could be interchangeable.

I think RNH could be sent to the wing for sure. He was excellent there in the WCH. Not sure he will ever figure out faceoffs. Would be worth a shot for sure and adding Strome and JJ gives TMac the options to do so effectively now.

Maroon McDavid Strome
Lucic Drai Slepy
Jokinen RNH Pulju
Khaira Letestu Kassian

That be my lines to start. Spread the offense. Start pulju with easy comp on the 3rd line with his mentor. Strome gets McDavids RW due to experience over the other options. Drai line has worked well before. 4th line can play hard and score a bit. I like it.
