We really have a versatile forward roster. Lots of different possible combinations and lots of opportunities for guys to grab spots up and down the lineup. Looks like there is definitely going to be a top 6 spot on the right side up for grabs and theoretically any of Strome, Slepyshev, Caggiula, Puljujarvi could run with it.

I like that it keeps the lines from have 3 left handed shots playing together. Nice mix of right handed and left handed throughout the lineup

Of course the stats depend on a lot of things, but out of these guys Strome had the best ppg/60 (1.58) with Pulju (1.45) and Slepy (1.34) slightly behind. Caggiula's number was 1.04 and somehow I don't think he's a very likely option to end up in the first line. At least in the fall I was even surprised he kept a place in the roster (may be because of his position as a center), but obviously he did at least somewhat better in the spring. Pulju's ppg/60 was very good at some point but it dropped a lot in the last games.

And before anyone says yes, this stat is not the only determining factor but it may be one of the best ways to have a bit of comparison. Especially the line mates distort these stats a lot as we saw in Pulju's case. With good players it was even elite in the league (though very small sample size of course) and with non-offensive ones not much at all.

Maroon McDavid Draisaitl
Lucic Nuge Strome
Jokinen Caguilla Slepyshev*
Khaira Letestu Kassian

*Hopefully Puljujarvi earns a spot on the third line. If he does I would try Jokinen centering this line with Drake/Slep on the wing. Otherwise be patient with him and let him develop in the AHL.

Klefbom-Larsson
Nurse-Benning
Russell-Gryba**

**Until Sekera returns. I would like to see Nurse/Benning grow together, so I would rather put Russell on his natural side with Gryba.

Do we have the deepest center depth in the league? Including Khaira we have 8 centers in our top 12.

One more message from me to this topic. I think that Pulju should definitely be given a spot in the opening roster over e.g. Caggiula or Slepyshev. I don't see any numbers dictating otherwise, but even in 50-50 situation Jesse's potential is so much higher so it should be brought out at all cost for the Oilers to have the best shot for the Cup this and the following years.

With all respect to e.g. Caggiula, he's a 5'9" 23-year-old player whose stats aren't too convincing to me. He could have more value if a center was really needed, but with this center situation that's not the case. Slepyshev has some good qualities, but he's also 23 years and scored ten points last season, so to be honest it's not easy for me to see superstar potential in him, but then again I didn't see him play too much in the spring.

I don't have any personal connection to Jesse so in that way I wouldn't mind even sending him to the FEL, but he is a player I really want to reach his highest potential as I believe he's only a couple of clicks away from a very high level. And I'm sure that a place in the NHL would be better for him right now. Fortunately Winnipeg didn't force Laine to earn a place in the roster, as otherwise there's a good chance he'd at least started the season in the AHL. Sometimes these youngsters need some patience and believing in. Even in the NHL.

As for the Oilers roster, it's beginning to look nice and balanced with plenty of options for the lines. One excellent defender might not harm, though.

This is exactly how I'm hoping they start the year. I think all of those lines would mesh perfectly, and it would make for a three pronged attack that would give opponents fits.

The more I think about it, the more I think we should split McD and Drai next season. Gives us more options, allows Drai to establish himself as an elite player on his own.

Maroon - McDavid - Nuge
Lucic - Draisaitl - Slepyshev
Jokinen - Strome - Puljujarvi
Caggiula - Letestu - Kassian

That has to be the best forward group in the league. If Pulju gets going.. look out.

I think this will be the closest to the opening night roster barring any injuries. There will also be lots of line shuffling with the only sure things being Letestu as the 4C and Mcdavid as the 1C with everyone else shifting lines.

I love the amount of W/C we have. Sure beats the days of trying Hall out at C when one C goes down. Chia doing work with these signings.

The left side is pretty secure but the right side is wide open for the taking.

Really strong forward group.

Maroon (18G, 32P) - McDavid (38G 112P) - Nuge (16G 52P)
Lucic (21G 42P) - Draisaitl (25G 68P) - Slepyshev (10G 25P)
Jokinen (14G 32P) - Strome (12G 30P) - Puljujarvi (22G 48P)
Caggiula (10G 28P) - Letestu (12G 25P) - Kassian (8G 20P)

Klefbom (10G 40P) - Larsson (4G 22P)
Sekera (4G 20P) - Russell (3G 18P)
Nurse (5G 20P) - Benning (7G 25P)

Would be 240 goals from our regular group.. probably around 260 w/injuries. Around 15G improvement.

I can see Maroon, RNH, and Lucic get more points than listed here as well.

You will be surprised JP makes the team and scores 40 pts and RNH will be converted to RW

Pakarinen

Drai will be making C money. Play him in that role.

Puljujarvi will make the Oilers. Such a great combination of size and speed. Jokinen will really help mentor him.

^These are the lines I would ideally like to see too. If JP makes the team out of TC he needs to play in the top 6 & be put in the best situation to succeed & imo that is with Drai or McDavid at C.

I like these lines! If I was coaching that's how I would have 'em. Unless Nuge has really worked on winning a draw in the offseason and why would he start now? then he has to play the wing and Id love to see him with McDavid. I also want to see Strome and Draisaitl at center.

Bold. I like it. But unlikely, imo. Yamamoto 95% (probably more) ends up back in junior, and even if he somehow makes the team, he's not getting second line minutes off the bat.

Drai takes all the draws, RNH plays the middle of the ice. Same deal as McDavid-Drai in the playoffs. Strome is not a C; Jokinen may also not be one, but can at least win a draw. Puljujarvi has no business being penned onto an NHL roster before camp.

Yeah I'd guess it's just for a few games before he goes down and that's if he is lights out at camp.

Another dark horse that no one mentions is Ty Rattie.
