Really starting to wish we had another GM. Chia for a Harvard educated guy gets taken to the cleaners almost every contract negotiation.

There's no reason for Drai to cost more than 7.5 million. Even that is too much for me. I was hoping him and mcdavid would value taking a little less to help keep guys like Nuge or Looch around.

Now they'll have no right to complain about the talent around them if they sign for 20 million plus combined. They'll have to be happy with caggiula/kassian/sleps as their wingers if they take that much cap space up.

someone who knew a thing or 2 about winning or someone who wanted more Jam on the team?
Chia is a good GM who over pays for established players but then gets bargain deals outta nowhere.

July 1st: Chia announces McDavid has signed a 8yrs 97M deal. Chia goes to Draisaitl camp and tells then how McDavid left ~10M on the table for the team and wants something similar from Draisiatl. Locks Drai up for 50M over 7 yrs.

Jordan and Pippen were hilariously underpaid for years (especially the first 4 Bulls titles).

Jordan only got paid after that 4th of those 6 titles, not that he cared that much because of his Nike/Gatorade/McDonalds/Hanes/etc. deals.

If the NHL operated under the NBA salary cap system I'd have no issue paying McDrai what they want. There is no hard cap in the NBA, you can go over the cap to sign your own players as long as you're willing to pay luxury tax. Unfortunately thats not the case in the NHL so any comparisons are moot.

He made a mess in Boston destroying their cap flexibility and is on track to do so here as well.

if Drai is looking for the money we are hearing about, he needs to be signed to a bridge deal (4 years at reasonable money, say 5.5-6) or he needs to be traded... simple as that

drai hasn't proven a dam thing, and his value is quite high right now you would think.... he would fetch quite a bit in a trade scenario.... if you could trade him for somebody like barkov or mackinnon straight across, i would do it in a heartbeat

i wouldn't mind him screwing ours up if it means we win a cup and have a finals appearance.

other than Boychuk to NYI, BOS never really had to make a cap saving deal.
You lock up your core and work with others later on.

Chara, Bergeron, Krejci deals worked out well for BOS even if they were overpayments.

Anyone have any examples of RFA's that Chia has overpaid?

How much did that have to do with the Savard situation?

Look at Boychuk now though. 6mil cap hit for a 33 yr declining player and the Islanders are still on the hook for another 5 years. Boston's lucky they still don't have him, especially considering they need to resign Pastarnak.

It's a serious question. He re-upped Segun for cheaper than Hall got IIRC. The only recent comparables for McDavid are Crosby, Ovie and Malkin.

I'm not convinced that Chia will bow down to Draisaitl's agent TBH.

That is Islanders problem... I dont expect Sekera and Russell to finish their contracts in Edmonton. Chia will find someone to take them off our hands ala Eberle or bury then in the AHL ala Fayne. With Lucic you can even ask him to retire\go on LTIR early due to his condition ala Ference\Hossa.

Sekera makes 4.5M in real dollars the last 2 yrs of his deal. Russell also has front loaded deal. Neither would have a full NTC in 2yrs. A lot more flexible than Boychuk. Cap will go up as well so it really wouldnt be too bad down the road.

I'm going to repeat what I said in the McDavid thread. I expect 8 Stanley cups if they these two get the contracts that are rumored.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight... Not that he got paid as the best player in the league or anything. And they definitely don't get endorsements AT ALL.

Savard situation was unfortunate for BOS. The guy is younger than Chara.
One can argue that the "Savard situation" may have cost BOS another cup or 2 considering he was their best forward.

IIRC Boychuk had to be moved because you can only go so much over the cap to start a season and LTIR is included in that number.

If they sign for that much on 8 year deals and we don't win at least one cup in that time, we'll be the laughing stock of the league again IMO. 8 cups is unrealistic, but I'd hope that we'd pull in multiple cups in that time.
