Carolina is 5M under the floor.

So they clearly need to add FAs/trade.

Hopefully the fat cat Francis matches what Sakic wants for Duchene before it's too late for Canes. The good news is that no one reported that Hanifin is untouchable just yet. The dream is still alive.

It'd limit both of their offensive upside and they'd struggle against bigger players. Pairings of Dahlin-Meloche and Zadorov-Makar would make way more sense. A 3rd pairing of Bigras-Timmins would compliment each other well also

LeBrun said Carolina was considering buying out Lack next. So no cap dump offers I suppose.

Saw the Carolina trade on the main HFboard page with only the names Eddie Lack and Ryan Murphy showing. Almost fainted thinking it was for Duchene lol.

I don't think he's going to there. Sakic probably wants Hanifin+ and I doubt Francis is willing to do Hanifin+ even if he's willing to do Hanifin alone. If Sakic goes after a deal around Fleury, Roy, a pick, etc then maybe there's a deal but I'm pretty sure Sakic wants that dman

See...Lack at full salary is exactly the kind of sweetener we could have taken in a trade. The more we wait, the more other teams are preparing their roster and the worse it is.

Or maybe every team wants to shed salary to push for Duchene!

I didn't mean draft Zadorov again, I was using Buffalo's 2013 draft as an example. Young, quality defensemen are extremely difficult to come by unless you draft them yourself, or did we all just forget that Sakic has been trying for years to get his hands on a precious top LHD under 25?

There's no incentive to draft forwards in the first round anymore, we have loads of top and middle six players and prospects already.

Focus heavily on drafting D for the next few years, and if we have a surplus then we trade them to fix holes up front.

It's much easier that way than it is to try to fix holes on D with young forwards, as we've seen first hand.

We are allowed to have a couple of them, but not too many. It all depends on who we trade MD for. Hanifin stay at home D man would be perfect for our needs. If it's Faulk, the we will have too many of Barrie, Faulk, Bigras playing similar style of what Ozolinsh brought us. We need a defensman that is more responsible in their own zone.

Hanifin is a 2-way D. Bigras is more of a defensive D-man.
The concept of the stay at home D is dying off, teams want their defensemen to be able to skate and take care of their own end, while being able to make crisp breakout passes and put up respectable numbers. Two-way D are essential to successful teams and you can never have enough of them. Chicago has Seabrook and Keith. Pittsburgh has Letang. Los Angeles has Doughty and Muzzin. Nashville has Josi and Ekholm.

Muzzin had a tough time putting up 30 points last season. Stay at home Dman like Vlasic, Tanev or Hjalmarsson have a very high value too.

I'm not expecting anything to happen. Sakic's stubborn as hell. If his ask today is still the same as it was at the deadline, and it sounds like it is, then I don't think he intends to bring it down. Of course the fact that he hasn't gotten his ask should wake him up but apparently he thinks having Duchene here for next year is great. The only way something happens is if he's bluffing and knows he has to move Duchene before next season, but I just don't see it with slow Joe.

Marc Methot is one of the best minute munching, stay-at-home D in the NHL and look what Vegas got for him.

Do we have confirmation that Sakic is pushing for a dman? Because I actually like our prospect group in the back more than the prospect group up front tbh especially if the 2018 pick is a top 4 pick and a dman again.

Can't we get a Simmonds + Schenn type deal here or a Voracek? Gimme that instead.
