But he is an elite 5-on-5 guy, look at his numbers. Not just this year, but last year and the year before and the year before that, etc...

I'm not saying he should be a first line winger, I'm not even saying give him more minutes. In fact, in the other thread I specifically said play him on the third line and shelter him. But in the minutes he does get, he IS an elite producer 5-on-5, period.

It's all price and term with guys like that. Frankly, I like the Preds already for bottom-6 options. Other teams have more openings than the Preds. Hartnell for $2M per on a 1-year term is going to be fine. But other teams might just think they NEED him more than the Preds do, and offer more $/term, so be it.

Looking into this a bit more I honestly hope we stay away. His production has fallen off a good bit over the last 3 years. 60 to 49 and then 37 points last season.
At 35 he may not have a lot left with the way he has played throughout his career. As much of a feel good story it would be I think our team is better served staying away from signing him.

Two top-line guys and a second line guy as the competition and we're playing "no true Scotsman" now?

As for trade value... well, look at all the folks getting bought out all over the league at the moment. Cap space seems to be the premium asset of late.

You're looking at it completely wrong. He scored fewer points due to less overall ice time and power play time. Scored more 5-on-5 points than everyone on the Preds except for Arvidsson and Forsberg. The same the year before, except only Neal and Forsberg topped him. More 5-on-5 points than Johansen this season in 330 fewer minutes.

He'd be an excellent addition to the third line, still a fantastic passer.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to bring him back for a 3rd line role at no more than 2 million a season but expecting him to come out and play 15-17 minutes a game and score more than 20 goals seems a bit much, IMO.

I'd think 2nd line role at that rate, but otherwise...

How do you people hate on a player making 1 million for 1 year? That's absurd

He's back. 1M/1yr contract you can't really argue with that. He has played for Lavy before so knows the system and he played with Johansen in Columbus. We got a guy who can get in front of the net on the PP. Poile loves bringing back guys he drafted that he never wanted to get rid of but had to because of money.

I'm not hating, and the contract is certainly not bad. I just don't see the fit. But if Lavy wants him, I'm ok with it. I just don't get it.

This the biggest thing that has me not liking this deal.

I think 1 year for 1 million negates the potential failure of this signing. Very little downside IMO

Remember you are on the Preds hfboards. This should not shock you in the least.

This is the deal of the day for any team. Doesn't quite make up for our other signing but I like this one a lot. Will fit well on the 3rd line.

If bonino is fishers replacement and hartnel is Neal's replacement the team won't be as good next season. Hopefully more to come.

We signed Hartnell to soften the blow of no Duchene and a mediocre next season

With us losing players and replacing them w/ other players, my only concern is after all is said and done this will be a totally different team and we won't be the same team/as good as this years team. Hoping I'm wrong though and they will actually be better.

Last year's team kinda sucked during the regular season. I wouldn't be too concerned about that. But such is the off season. Every team will deal with the same thing.

True about the regular season. I was mainly talking about our playoff season though. The run we had in the playoff season was magical and just hoping we can duplicate it next year.
