My concern is speed. We made our living off speed last season. I had originally thought Bonino was fast, but apparently I am wrong. We are adding Fiala and Aberg though so that helps

Pittsburgh made their living on speed too, but they had Hornqvist, Bonino and Scott Wilson (on occasion) in their top 9. They can't all be speedsters.

Yeah that is my concern too with filling our roster w/ older, slower players. Rather go younger than older but Bonino and Hartnell are good players at least so hopefully it will help the team and not hinder it.

How can anyone hate this deal. Its as close to getting a player fir free as you'll get.

At worst he's decent net presence in the PP and at best he scores 20+

Can't believe I agreeing with Voldy.

I am happy to see Hartsy back with the Preds. The team needed someone to park in front of the goalie to get the dirty goals.

Great deal for the Preds!

If the Hartnell of the first half of the season shows up, then this will be a steal. If the Hartnell of the second half shows up, then he'll be watching a lot of games from the press box-but at $1 million for one year, who cares?

He slowed down noticeably during the second half. Perhaps a nagging injury, perhaps age. I'd think that limiting his games played would probably be a good strategy at this point.

We can't let our postseason success set unrealistic expectations though. The primary goal needs to be to better upon an 8th seed finish in the regular season while also keeping an eye toward an improved postseason squad. I think we're at least one acquisition away from definitively doing both, though it was always likely that was going to happen through trade rather than UFA. For what was available and done on the 1st day of free agency, we're headed in the right direction.

I thought he was supposed to be fast. Seems like there was a commentary before the SCF started about his speed. Maybe they were talking about another Pens player. My first thought was our speed advantage against ANA and STL was negated.

A net presence was a big need during the finals I noticed. We may have sacrificed some speed by getting Hartnell and Bonino, but it's not like we don't have a fast team already. Like someone else said, worst comes to worst and he's in the press box for a million like Mike Riberio.

I thought Bonino was pretty fast. Remember their run two years ago, HBK was burning it up. Maybe it was just the Hagelin affect.

Hagelin and Kessel are very fast. Bonino is definitely not.

Hartnell sounded really excited about coming back to Nashville. Said it was his 1st choice in that he loved the city and loved playing for Lavy.

I wasn't around during his first run but good to have him back anyways, especially on such a good low-risk contract.

I really hope I get to see Hartnell throw his glove at someone live in person this year! One of the funniest hockey clips I've ever seen.

Is he noticeably slow though? He's at least average. If he ends up with Fiala and Aberg or Smith, I think it shouldn't be a factor.

That was one of the first things I thought as well.

I'd say he's probably below average, but not incredibly slow or anything. Didn't hurt him when he was playing with Hagelin and Kessel though, he's smart and creative, he makes it work.

Yeah he's definitely average. Don't put him in the same category as Riberio. Not fast. Just very average.

Welcome home Scotty!! I'm excited for him to be back.

I don't have any unrealistic expectations, I know what he is now. But if nothing else, at least we'll have another player with the guts to go to the front of the net and stay there for tips and screens.

He loves Lavy, the city, the team. It's one year, 1mil, he'll be motivated. There is virtually no risk.

Mr. Liambas, your jersey is required.

No worries about his speed at all if we just need him to park his old ass in front of the other goalies facemask for 82+ games. Let the kids do the speed skating. Harts can just get in the heads of the goalies and d men.

I thought about this deal and worst case Hartnell replaces McLeod or somebody on the 4th line and adds some secondary scoring to the bottom 6. At $1M, it honestly doesn't matter what he does as long as he's not in a top 6 and struggles.

If he's our Hornqvist, that's pretty much all we can ask of him.
