Some reminders. Source all rumors or news. Even if you can't link at least say where it came from. No jokes, double check no fake news before posting, try to limit trade proposals in this thread.

Also, keeping the Rumors aka Duchene trade thread for now to try and keep things separate but may have to lock that and consolidate talk if things get too crazy. For now, this is for all July 1 related news Avs or NHL. Any trade or signing will get its own thread, two-way contracts will get consolidated into one thread.

Top scoring UFA forward is our old friend Radim Vrbata. That should tell you just how ridiculous the deals will be.

There's zero chance the Oilers are trading Draisaitl but if Sakic somehow pulled that off I'd be giddy for the entire summer.

I would sign Bernier on a 2 year deal.

Fine with Kulikov, I guess, but what's the point? Get marginally better? Has Soderberg written all over it.

Want no part of Yakupov or 90% of the forward crop clowns, to be honest. I have resigned myself to accepting we need to sign a few of these goofs. Nothing beyond two years, Joe. Please.

Whoever we get, is going to be involved in us building into something very special quite soon. Hope we make some great acquisitions

Wow. This must be one of the worst UFA pools in history then. Can't remember much worse.

G = Bernier
D = Kulikov and Postma
F = King and Holland

+ 7 no-namers on minor league deals (only have 26 players on contract plus 6 RFAs)

....and no Duchene trade

The Clarkson one was pretty bad in 2013.

Haha Holland would so be an Avs move. He'd have a good first couple of games

then Boom. New Colborne.

My predictions:
Bernier, Kulikov, Holland, Byron/Bennett, Rau and then some AHL plugs. Maybe even another bad defensemen as well.

I'd love to see them make some smart acquisitions like Pitlik, Thompson, Hainsey, Folin, Kalinen or Wingels but my expectations will remain extremely low.

Yeah but so will 70% of players signed today. 25% will be paid on par to their worth and 5% will be bargains.

Jeez that was 2013? Leafs were so terrible. I can't believe how fast they were able to rebuild their team.

Teams are never winners on July 1st. The only winning move is to not play.

I have the Clarkson deal burned in my memory, I could not believe a non scoring winger could get that contract, even when they announced it on NHL network, twitter and etc I thought it was a joke or something.

What an absolutely horrible contract would that be for Kulikov.

It's hard to think of any big money contracts that worked out great. Nothing wrong with targeting some depth though.

The real value in free agency is getting players no one wants a while later and get them on one year deals, flipping them for picks at trade deadline if they have a decent year.

Sign only one year deals and then trade them before the trade deadline.
