An awful pool of players doesn't help either.

Also, I don't think that Shattenkirk deal is that bad. I was expecting 7 years. He'll only be 32 by the time the deal ends, and likely still a good player. It could have been a lot worse than that.

@frank_seravalli: Talked to Shattenkirk camp. He hasn't decided where he will sign yet, reports otherwise are premature.

LeBrun said around 2.75 for 1 year for Bernier

@NYP_Brooksie: I can tell you that the reported deal between Rangers and Shattenkirk is not accurate.

He can be traded right now.

But the FA market will dry up over the next 24-48 hours, with ludicrous contracts being handed out.

Dutch could look a lot more appealing in comparison to those contracts, and with other options severely limited.

I honestly want Shattenkirk. Even at that 4x6.9 contract. It's a free asset and likely gives us the ability to trade Barrie. The teams that strike out on Shattenkirk will also be the ones likely desiring a Tyson Barrie in a trade.

Shattenkirk is going to be overpaid, but I think the difference in Shattenkirk's and Tyson Barrie's contracts will be well worth the extra hit when you consider the asset coming back for Barrie (if That happens).

I've been vocal on not wanting to trade Tyson Barrie at all but this would change it for me.

He knows he'll get an opportunity to compete for the starting job.

They're not bringing in Bonino for a Top 6 role IMO. He'll be the 3C replacement to Fisher.

They still need a Top 6 Center if they want to compete for the cup.

Bernier betting on playing time to parlay into a starting spot in 2018. I'm good with this.

Bonino is a 3rd liner, if they get out of Duchene sweepstakes because they got Bonino they were never serious players for Duchene to begin with.

While I agree on Bones being a 3rd liner, there is only so many center spots on that team and Fischer is coming back.

Yeah, my point is that if they settled for him they either:

1) Don't value Duchene as much as we do
2) Weren't 100% in on him
3) cut the cord because they never intended to match the asking price

If RyJo really is asking for 8M+ there is no way, the Preds still have interest in bringing in Duchene after paying Bonino

Canes are probably out of it as well with Williams.

Jackets are probably the most interested in Kovalchuk.

Yeah well. Looks like Duchene will be an Av in October as expected..

And I can't wait for Duchene's trade value to continue getting lower

If the Canes and Preds are out after adding Williams and Bonino respectively, then they were never really in on it.

4) Sakic's price is so unreasonable that they'd rather keep what they have and just add Bones.
