Glad Alzner finally got paid but I'm also really happy it wasn't by the Caps

I dunno, if they weren't in the death row of a division I think they'd be a fringe playoff team. They're also ok the upswing, just in need of a center imo.

So one bad season, and about a million twabby post about how Orlov's "puck possession" makes him a #2 defenseman and we are happy he is gone. Alzner gave us good defense. If offense is so important on defense then lets bring back Jeff Schultz. Remember how many people wanted Green gone? Now because one poster posts stats about puck possession then we should be happy that one of our best overall defenseman is gone after one bad year because that one poster says he is done. I understand we were never going to resign him, but he was one of our best workers for years. This is a sad day boys. Again he was one of our hardest workers. And i don't hate Orlov, but the captain of his fan club is driving me crazy. Trying to bring back the 2010 Caps defense isn't going to solve a thing.

Schultz's career high was 23 points. I don't know what you're talking about here.

Well a least they got him for less term. I guess.

As for Alzner...yes, he will be missed. I'd rather still have him on that deal than two more years of Orpik on his...but the window passed. Hopefully Lewington can be an Alzner type...but with more snarl (what Alzner needed to be even better than he was/is)

Now think what John Carlson is going to get next offseason if Shattenkirk gets $6.9M. They really, really should have thought about trading him before the expansion draft but they should key in on signing him now for a slight discount.

Glad the Caps didn't trade Carlson to sign Shatty to that contract. $6.9 for suspect D is a lot.

I consider twabby's "puck possesion" stats to be like Schultz's +/-. Look i don't care about puck possession. Its nice, but i care about what my defensemen do when we don't have the puck. Orlov did a great job. Now i know your wondering "then why are you complaining". Here is my point. I would rather see Orlov be a shut down defender every night with zero points, then a medicore defender with 2 or 3 points. We need another defender now. We only have 3. Nisky, Carlson, and hopefully Orlov. I'm hoping the kid takes the next step on defense vs offense.

We need him for now. Unless Bowey or someone else steps up, then he needs to stay.

Orlov's already better defensively than Carlson. Carlson is who you think Orlov is.

That's not to say Carlson is bad. His offensive play is very valuable but he's questionable in his own end.
