Anyone know the UFA RD for next offseason? If the Caps season goes bad they can trade Carlson and either sign a UFA or go younger with any of our RD prospects

But he could probably return a good roster player and more now. Absolutely can't risk trading him for peanuts at the TDL or losing him for nothing next offseason. Sign him to an extension this offseason, or trade him.

Basically what the Blues should have done with Shattenkirk instead of getting a weak return at the TDL.

That's not to say Carlson is bad. His offensive play is very valuable but he's questionable in his own end.
Your judging that after one year. Thats the thing with you. One bad year and they have to go. Carlson will bounce back.

I agree but the Caps don't have a history of doing that. A young NHL D and a top prospect would be ideal

You would have to show me what teams would give for Carlson. I would want a younger DEFENSIVE defenseman. NO puck movers.

I'm counting on him bouncing back but he's never been strong defensively.

I'm sure you've got plenty of stats to back that up but it's simply not true.

Hunwick to Pitt. Most of the low-level candidates for the Caps to explore are going off the board.

The D this year is going to be hot garbage. Oh wellz.

You haven't noticed the trend from a couple of posters? No loyalty, no understanding that humans have ups and downs only, prod vs cap hit.

Yeah I'd hate to use facts to back up a claim.

With Alzner gone who will step up in the locker room and tell reporters we were sleepy and unmotivated?

I don't want Carlson gone, I want him signed now. After two down seasons due to injury where maybe he can be had at a small discount, why risk him having a bounce back season and having to shell out top dollar for him next season?

If the Cap season goes bad, I understand that Carlson being a pending UFA might be a logical choice, but I'd have to look at some players who have longer tenures with the team then him and believe that it's time for a change of scenery for them as well.

Who's now going to be that player to stand next to Holtby during the reception line after a Caps win.

Sums it up for me. Good for you, Karl. Get paid! Hope you stay healthy and have a productive/happy time in MTL. But please play poorly whenever you're playing against the Caps.

Next year's UFA D class is currently slated to include:
Vlasic (L)
Chara (L)
Green (R)
Enstrom (L)
Fowler (L)
J. Johnson (L)
Gorges (L)

A lot of LHD at this point, but completely scarce on RHD. Also remember that every free agent class looks good a year out, but then half of the players get signed to extensions before they hit UFA.

Now it's up to Holtby to call them out in the press, only to lay his own egg the next game out.
