He might not. The Wings sucked last season yet he signed here for 3 years.

He could be looking for end of career stability more than competing for the Cup.

Just stop it. I'd take Daley for 4 years over Girardi for 2.

Deal includes no-trade/modified no-trade clause.
Of course it does.

3 years of wasted cap space and contract when we're supposed to be rebuilding. Instead of acquiring pieces we can flip or young guys we can gamble on upside were signing a 34 year old busted up defenseman to a 3 year contract with an ntc.

Historically, do many UFA players who sign on the frenzy get a NTC?

Jesus. Complaining about both Witkowski and Daley deals? This is pretty much an optimal FA scenario for us. Short-term deals in an area of need where we have several guys on the way out. Changes nothing about our rebuild either.

Well scrubs obviously will take whatever deal they can get. But top 4 PMD that log 20 minutes per game might be more desirable to more teams.

Did Girdari get a NTC?

There really is nothing to be upset about here.

I would like them to go after Grigorenko and be finished for the off-season.

Almost maximun tail-end deal on nowadays rules... lowest salary can't be less than 50% of highest salary.

That smells quite obviously "sign for 2,5 years and sell at the 2020 deadline deal".

Dumped by three teams in three seasons. Surely, he's a winner and a perfect piece for a team built for the playoffs.

Holland logic.

Not the worst deal. He'll do a fine job replacing the **** defender that Kronwall has become. Just another 4/5 warm body.

At least he's better than the other 3m D signings today, so that's good I guess.

I'm guessing (hoping?) that it's a modified NTC and expires the last year of his deal.

I like how the majority of players got signed to either a 1 or a 2 year deal, but Detroit inking a guy to 3 years with a NTC gets categorized as 'short term'.

When this is all you got, Holland made an amazing signing.
