That hurts Buffalo. Briere has been coming on strong as of late.

He's been one of the few bright spots in a relatively dark stretch for the Sabres.

Hmm, sounds weird considering the players involved.

I'd like to hear from someone who's seen this play

I didn't see the play, so I can't say what happened...haven't even seen any replays of the incident....but, as of right now, i've heard 3 different stories...
1st...leetch tripped briere, and he was careless with his stick...
2nd. from boston fans pov....briere dove and carelessly hit leetch in the face with his stick...
3rd...according to the boston herald....briere elbowed leetch in the head which caused the injury....

if anyone can find video of this...we would all really like to see it...

If he was suspended, it couldn't have been a small ticky tack high stick.

Sooooo 3 games for breaking someone's neck and 2 games for high sticking. Nice. I'm not saying it is that cut and dry but you have to wonder how they come up with their punishments. There is absolutely no clear message being sent to the players in regards to safety and enforcement. They seemed to take a step forward with the crackdown from 4 or 5 years ago but have taken several back in the last 2 years.

it certainly seems that way based on the way penalties are being called within the games too (although this can vary greatly from crew to crew)... Tons of hooks (less interference lately), but some blatant missed calls as well.

Leetch tapped him in the leg. Briere dove like he had been shot and smacked Leetch in the face with his stick.

If Leetch was hurt by the elbow, he wouldn't have been able to continue to play and slash Briere. He didn't hit him in the face intentionally, but he clearly dove, a little tap on the leg from Brian Leetch of all people is not going to knock you down like you were hit by a bus.

Leetch was called for a penalty on the play... Tripping. No call on Briere.

There is one thing that really ticks me off, and it's players diving. I cannot stand it.

Ya know what's sad there's an art to diving as well.

Some people are dramatic about it and you wonder how they can be so bad.

The real key to taking a "dive" is to slip a little but act like your trying to keep skating. It's more of slightly breaking stride more than the full on swan dive a lot of these guys do.

Didn't Briere intentionally high stick a Ranger the other night? I think it was Moore, and Briere got a double minor on the play. He's just as dirty as Gionta and Blake. ****ing midgets.

and let's not forget that he punched Kaspar in the back of the head shortly after Kaspar's "dirty" hit on Connolly.
