Dale Hawerchuk Jets HOF Night: Nov.14,2017

I've waited so long for this. If you happen to watch the ceremonies in Phoenix, when Hawerchuk's number was retired in 2007, it was pathetic. Nobody knew who he was and there was a scattering of polite applause. You could hear a pin drop. Ducky deserved so much more.

Mark your calender's for November 14. The Jets are finally inducting my childhood hero. Ducky was the franchise player of the 80s. He was the heart and soul of the Jets. Hawerchuk is finally getting the recognition he deserves, and I hope fans give Ducky a standing ovation, during the Jets Hall of Fame ceremony. Dale Hawerchuk was Mr.Jet from 1981-1990.

I see so many parallels between Scheif and Ducky. Ironic that Hawerchuk coached Scheif in Junior.

I intend to attend every HOF game so that I may commend the honoree, even if I have to expend additional money to descend from my loge because I have to contend with my ticket group for games. Too bad it's not on the weekend. I will now suspend my silly rhyming and bring this post to an end.

Digging the 80's style Jets home jersey out of my closet for this one. I'm psyched up to go.

The Jets should wear the Heritage classic jerseys for this game , Ducky carried the Jets on his back for many years , awesome hockey player .

Yes, it will be great to see Hawerchuk receive the recognition he deserves and in the city where it all happened. You cannot transfer memories to another location when moving a team. Congrats to Ducky!

Looking forward to seeing Hawerchuk's banner being raised to the rafters to be alongside those of Hedberg, Hull and Nilsson. He'll be in good company.

my wife was lucky to photograph a charity event that Dale was at. Very nice guy.
On the second day, she brought her vintage jersey for him to sign.
It's the only piece of autographed memorabilia that i think i own.
i looked at her photos after and, after all these years, he still skates like a duck.

i had the chance to meet him once, about 12 years ago. very soft spoken, but nice.

if the Jets ever put statues outside the MTS arena, it would be Hull, Hedberg, Nillson, Ducky and Selanne. and maybe Olczyk, uttering The Promise

When I look at that picture, I can only see Dale thinking...

Kill me. Kill me now.

That would be the best thing ever to happen to the Jets.

Dale should have never been allowed to leave Winnipeg. We should have driven the entire front office staff to the Manitoba/Saskatchewan boarder and dropped them into the nearest snow bank.

Dale wanted to play in Winnipeg his entire career. We should have repaid his loyalty.

I remembered Dale appeared on CJOB before he left town and was worried that the fans would be mad at him.Not one single person said a negative word and he was praised for all he did for Winnipeg.

Would be an experiment to say the least and a tough call to hire a chl coach with no nhl coaching experience. It has the possibility to be the greatest move if it he was able to coach us to successive playoff appearances or the fans would bring out the pitchforks if nothing really changed in the teams performance.

I would hope we have more class than that.

{snip}
That was actually every person in attendance madly clapping as loudly as they could.

And as for the notion that Ducky should be our head coach: we've been there done that. We had a coach with no NHL coaching experience. It wasn't pretty.

Back on topic: I'm curious to see how early the November 14th game goes in people's drafst. I might have to post a poll.

I feel that if Ducky actually came to coach this team right out of junior it would forever taint the fan bases perception of him. There is a vast difference between being able to coach well in junior and coaching well in the NHL. I feel be would fail spectacularly if we thrust him into that role.

There is that risk but it is possible to move from Junior to the NHL as it was done by Patrick Roy. He had been coach of the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL and was hired by the Colorado Avalanche in 2013.
